FSU is a top 10 program, but if UT comes calling you consider it because it is the BEST program(argue about that all you want but in terms of resources and power it is) I still think it will be Saban, but fisher would be next in line. I think Strong is out because of small sample size against decent competition and I see him waiting for the Florida job to open up in another year

Not to scare you, Bear fans, but this is the exact same thing Briles said when he was at Houston and was asked if he was leaving for Baylor.

He knew about the UT opening before he signed the extension.

New stadium, big buy out for any Texas school. I think he stays put at Baylor. You never know but the likelihood of him leaving doesn't look too great.

He knew as much as we did, which, as it turns out, was very little. Get what you can, while you can.

Texas school? Is that really a stipulation in the contract?

My first point is that he could have used the leverage to possibly get even more for him and his coaches.

What I've heard is that the buyout is as high as 20M for any Texas school. 5ish for non-Texas schools. This is private info so I'm not entirely sure what to believe.

This was a part of the new deal he signed not too long ago.

Could be true, could be false. Who knows, who cares. A punitive buyout from Baylor isn't going to stop UT from getting whoever they want as head coach. I don't think they particularly want Briles, though.

20M is a lot of jack.

I get it though. UT has money so who cares but the article I read today says they do care about the buyout.

A lot of jack to us. Pretty minimal to the highest revenue program in America. Like I said, I don't think they want Briles. But if the job was offered, I have no reason to believe he'd stick with Baylor if offered a chance at a better job / more money. He's a mercenary who's going to do what's best for Art Briles, no question. And there's nothing wrong with that, most coaches are the same way.

20 million is absurd and I have a really hard time believing it.

The only place I can find substantiation of that is other anonymous internet posters with no references.

I doubt you would unless UT does hire him. Baylor is under no obligation to reveal the details of the contract.

Obviously Baylor is a private school and doesn't have to disclose the contract details, but something other than random internet posters would go a long way towards lending it credence. Even a fan/paysite.

The difference being that Chizik won the National Title in his 2nd year with Tubervilles players. He was a good coach but was not able to recruit against the likes of Alabama and the other SEC teams. Chizek was worse each of the next two seasons following the national championship trying to win with his players. In 4 seasons Chizek won more than 8 only once and won 3 in his 4th season. IMO they fired him pretty quickly after winning a national title.

Jimbo Fisher turned around FSU almost immediately. In his 4 seasons he has won 10, 9, 12 and 13 (could be 14 games) games. He has won a bowl game every year he has coached including last season's BCS Orange Bowl Game. If FSU wins the National Title over Auburn he will be 4 and 0 in Bowl Games including 2 BCS Bowl wins and a National Title. Jimbo now has two top 10 finishes and unlike Chizick, he is winning with his players not the previous coaches players.

I would say that there is significantly more substance to Fisher's head coaching resume than Chizick's head coaching resume.

Furthermore, Gene Chizick is somewhat of an anomaly. if you go down the list of previous national champions you get the who's who of college coaching. Maybe the only other fluke coach was Larry Coker at Miami. Like Chizick, Coker's best seasons were his first three seasons and he got progressively worse after that.

By the way, I'm not championing Jimbo Fisher at all. My original post was just a response to someone who basically was claiming that UT essentially didn't have the ability to get Fisher from FSU. My post was simply to imply that UT has the resources to make any coach think very seriously about taking the UT job if the school wants that coach. FSU does not seriously have the resources to but a competitive bid against UT if UT want's Fisher bad enough.

20M for TX schools (biggest threat) sounds about right and I'll explain why.

Baylor has done a lot to appease Briles. They're building new housing for the football players. Generally speaking, Baylor has spent a lot for the football program at the request of Briles. I just can't see him leaving with Petty returning, stadium opening, etc.

And there's that whole politickin, kissing butt thing that Briles doesn't like to do.

I was surprised to hear how strongly the commentators rejected the Charlie Strong rumors during the Russell Athletic Bowl

For those who have LHN, you should switch to their channel. At first I avoided it bc I wanted to hear the natl broadcast on ESPN.
LHN has multi-camera views (ESPN broadcast) with stats window and replay camera. It's really sweet.

man, swaim's drops pretty much ruined that last 5 minutes of the half. ended one drive past mid-field, and then could have set up a shorter 3rd down and run some more clock on the other one. throw in shipley's easy 3rd down drop and there's only so much you can expect the defense to do to make up for the offense's ineptitude on easy catches.

Obviously not prepared to play. Revoke this guy's scholarship. You can't catch a 5 yard pass you don't belong on the team.
    Saban wouldn't have it
