Hixon coached WR for the Redskins and Bills for 9 years.
Charles London was a quality control "coach" for a few years.

That's the extent of NFL experience on that staff.

I doubt he brings his complete staff over. That would be disappointing. Maybe he brings a few guys, and maybe in lower positions than what they held at Penn State. I'd probably expect Hixon to be the WR coach though.

FWIW, they didn't report that he told "his staff" (which would indicate the entire staff) to "be ready to come to Houston". They said "staff members", which indicates only select staff, not the entire staff.

    Things I like about O'Brien -

He went to an Ivy (Brown) so he is reasonably intelligent. The "aw shucks" Aggie thing was getting more than a bit old with Kubiak.

Even though he's always been an offensive coach, in college he played LB. Presumably that makes him more than some of the completely one sided guys. It's pretty clear that Kubiak had to delegate EVERYTHING related to defense - he had no ability to even evaluate the D.

I did watch several interviews where he dropped the "it's on me" line a couple of times, which may not go over that well.

This question says it all and sums everything up.

I assume you are very young. When college coaches interview for other positions, lying about it commonplace. Simple as that. Nobody is saying it's honest. Everybody is trying to explain to you that is what happens.

I expect plenty of leaked "inside sources" that say O'Brien to Cleveland is a done deal (after they perform their token minority interview).

Its the first opportunity the O'Brien group has had to try to gain leverage on the Texans (who likely leaked all the other stuff thus far).

Browns are going to have 4 different head coaches in 5 years. Who would want to walk into that situation?

I never said it wasn't commonplace. and you didn't answer my question. The 'everyone does it' comment has no value as we are talking about morality. ex: I think slavery is immoral, but everyone else has slaves so what the hell.

You shouldn't lie to a kid who is making probably the most important decision of their life to that point. Just say 'I don't comment on my future employment' and let them take that for whatever. If they want to assume that you are leaving and the other coach that says 'I'll be here the next 4 years' is staying, that's the player's mistake/choice.

Houston is far more appealing i think. More talent. #1 pick. Patient/respected owner. Far better city. No income tax. Can't think of one reason Cleveland would be more appealing.

Somebody who already has had a good relationship with the GM, and somebody who would immediately become the king of that city if he wins in a market that is even more snake bitten and championship starved than Houston.

I'm very much weary that the Browns were this decisive to fire chud in a year where I'brown negotiates out of PSU (which was apparently why he couldn't take the job last year).

Even more weary if it's true that the Texans want him to have less power vs Rick Smith. He's probably going to choose Lombardi over Smith in that face off.

In case you haven't noticed, this isn't the forum to discuss morality. Let's stay on football.

The Browns job is one I would never take if I was trying to get into the NFL. Failure there can cost you your career. it's not worth it for that franchise.

Still, I could see him bypassing Houston for Cleveland if he really has a strong relationship with Lombardi.

Wouldn't read much into this guys tweets. Just by reading his responses/how he insults the people asking him questions, you can see how "smart" he is...

Would fit right at home with some of the trolls on here.

haha, Ken Wisenhunt's team can't even beat the Chief's 2nd stringers with the Playoffs on the line, at home.

    smokescreen.

And success there would make him a God.

Success here makes him popular... till he fails and everybody jumps the ship.

I think the biggest factor will be the potential relationship with the front office... if he feels "comfortable" working with Lombardi, where he likely will have a ton of input in player personnel as they try to emulate the "Belicheck" Browns, they're going to be a more appealing job.

All that being said, I expect the Texans to grab him (if they really want him).

Okay, O'Brien is a big fat liar for saying he's staying, yet interviewing for a job. Let's put him on timeout.

    Thank God the chargers won.

I believe Whisenhunt cannot interview until they are out of the playoffs.

Hopefully bob cancels the token interview and locks up obrien immediately.
