I think those guys were the only other competition to steal whatever coach the Texans wanted.

If it's true, we are probably the best head coach opening available (maybe Cowboys? too much drama though).

Our defense was already pretty crappy this year before Cushing (and Manning) went down.

    How would you know?

If you say 'I'm gonna stay' and then go interview for 5 different jobs then really you have lied whether you stay or go. And it does hurt future recruiting.

That's moronic. Of course lying has a consequence. People will trust you less in the future. Also most people don't enjoy screwing over some young adult's future.

You must be new to sports.

And he's not screwing anyone over...until he has a head coaching job in the NFL locked up, he is the head coach of PSU.

    This is how it works.

Also, what future recruiting does it hurt? He's going to be an NFL coach...if he goes back to college, it'll be at least 5 years from now. You think some current 12 year old is going to really care or be worried about something like that?

From a pride/ego perspective, Wade ain't staying if he doesn't get the HC job. And I doubt the new HC is going to want to retain the existing DC that 1) was the interim HC and interviewed for HIS job and 2) was a contributing factor to the 2 or 3-win disaster season.

Except for the fact that he is right and you obviously have no idea how it works.

Yep. You keep on doing your job until you don't have it anymore. Mack Brown was in Florida recruiting a few days before he retired.

Funny, coming from the guy that calls my original comment "moronic".

It does if he stays at PSU after interviewing for 4-5 other jobs. Clearly he would of lied to his recruits who he is now coaching.

i called your comment moronic. not you.

again you are just spitting out a platitude. 'That's how it works' is not an argument as it contains no reasoning or logic.

You really think those recruits will be butthurt that he interviewed for NFL jobs? At the end of the day, he continues to be the head coach of PSU just like he said he would.

Again, this happens ALL THE TIME. There is nothing new or shocking about this...and nobody is going to hold it against O'Brien if he is interviewing.

i think they will be butthurt that they were lied to by their new coach. Yes. This is a big decision for these recruits and their new coach tried to screw them over.

Again that's not an argument. 'Everybody's doing it' holds no value to anyone.

If you don't understand that O'Brien is still the head coach of Penn State and that he does not have a contract with any other team, we can't help you. Sorry, but there is no "argument", that's just you being too stupid to "argue" with.

Uh, yeah it does. A precedent is in place. For coaches making the jump to the NFL, they follow this protocol.

What makes you think I don't understand those things? I was discussing what a coach should say when he is asked 'are u staying' by a recruit or player. O'Brien's situation has nothing to do with the discussion.

its a moral decision. why would anyone do something based off precedent?

You said he was lying to recruits. He isn't lying. At this time he is the Penn State head coach. Until he has another contract, telling recruits that he is going to be at Penn State isn't lying. If these "kids" don't realize that he is interviewing for these job(s) then they are idiots too. If we know that he is interviewing, you know for certain they know as well.
