All that rant has established is that YOU in particular don't know what the Rockets "identity" is. The only confusion is coming from you. The Rockets, and the rest of the NBA, know what the Rockets are about.
the problem is too much players was traded this year. We no longer keep Delfino, Tony Douglas, Morris, etc. They both can provide essential minutes with their 3 pts shooting and short term high energy bursting game. Mchale force Parsons to play 40 minutes a game to fill up SF positions and TJs is also playing starters. But that is all about it. In return, the new player we got just can not hold up the bench time.
I agree, we are really missing some of the players we gave up last year. Hopefully Morey can do something about the bench by the deadline. We have a great core if we can find the right role players and establish a playing style then we will be hard to beat.
Whatever you choose to see. Or not to see. I'm not going to waste time discussing the Rockets "identity" because it's an empty concept to begin with - each person fills in their own meaning. Here's exactly how the conversation goes: Me: Rockets "identity " is X, Y, Z You: No it isnt!!
LOL, your crazy. First you say there is no such thing as Team Identity (A term a learned in college by the way). Then you say you know what it is, but you won't tell me because I will disagree??, lol. Why so militant today?
Shoulda went to a better college. They didn't learn ya right. I don't bother trying to get into intellectual discussions with Charles Barkley types. Not worth the effort.
So now, that you have been proven a fraud you result in nitpicking typos. How the mighty have fallen.
Then maybe you don't watch the Rockets enough because that is exactly how you can define the Rockets offense. The are one of the premier running teams in the NBA. With Dwight they have added post scoring. Everyone on the offense knows their rolls and plays to that. That is why they are the 2nd highest scoring team in the NBA. Few teams are as clearly defined as the Rockets are on offense. 1. Fast Break 2. Score in the paint 3. Score from beyond the arc (3point shot) When you look at the Rockets shot charts there is no question that everyone on the team has bought into the team offensive philosophy. No Question. If you can't see that then you are not paying attention. The Rockets do not typically run a set of plays, like Miami they are a free flowing offense that uses a philosophy more than a play book. A lot of high pick and rolls, space the floor with 3pt shooters, feed Dwight in the post and a lot of cutters going to the basket. The team knows exactly who their 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th options are. They know exactly who their closers are. They know exactly who's hands they want the ball in during crunch time in the 4th quarter. The team as a whole has completely bought into this philosophy. It's crystal clear if you just watch the games. The only time that the Rockets offensive philosophy breaks down is when they sub out the starters because the large number of injuries the team has sustained has caused a discontinuity in the rotation. You can call the Rockets of a lot of things but you can not accuse them of not buying in as a team to the offensive philosophy of the team concept.
You are the one who brings up education as a point, you left yourself fair game for that. And I already told you, I'm not having this "identity" debate, but you keep insisting on it. The only thing I'm gonna say on the subject is, it's a phrase that Barkley uses, therefore I know its trash and a waste of time to talk about. I will let the more patient posters waste their time on this "identity" discussion.
WOW, A real answer. I'm amazed. So now everyone is agreeing that there is a such thing as Team Identity. A minute ago there was no such thing and I was 7, interesting. You guys get angry easily we are just talking basketball lighten up Geez. Anyway I do disagree, that was the Rockets identity last year. Now that they have a post player things have to change a bit in order for them to be a contender, in my humble opinion. We to go through Dwight a bit more while the cutters cut.
But you said everyone in league knew? which means you acknowledge that there is a such thing. But now there isn't again and you are just putting up with me? Even though you are the one who responded to my post and started this argument in the first place?? makes sense, lol.
Team identity is just a phrase used when a team has a clear philosophy on how it wants to run it's team. If the team buys into the philosophy or concept you can see it then you can see the team identity. It's just a catch phrase that someone came up with that has kind of stuck in sports. Football, your offensive identity can be a running team or passing team or maybe even a balanced attack. In basketball a JVG team has a very clear identity. Slow the ball down and use up clock to limit the number of possessions in a game. Don't turn the ball over on offense. Pack the paint and guard the 3 point line on defense. Stay close using defense and let your superstars take over to win the game in 4th if you have one. A Kevin McHale team lakes to gamble on defense to great turnovers that start fast breaks. His teams hate the mid range shot, love the 3 point shot and shots close to the basket and don't like take their offensive shots early in the clock before the opposing defense has a chance to get set. Identity is your style of play, your philosophy.
Exactly why I didn't bother. I had that entire conversation pegged from the get-go. crash5179 is exactly right. But he wasted his time. When a person uses an empty phrase as a discussion point, there is no possible way to have a fruitful discussion from it.
Just because the team has added a post weapon does not mean that they have lost their identity it just means that they have added another weapon. They still want to score early in the clock prior to teams getting set on defense. They still score from post or beyond the arc 80 percent of the time. But now they are better in the half court game because they have a legit post weapon. The teams identity that you are claiming does not exist is still alive and well. So at the end of all of this debate I still don't think you pay attention to the games because I still think when you claim the Rockets don't have an identity you are exceptionally wrong.
You mean, they DO like to take early shots, right? Style and philosophy are well established. "Identity" is a buzz word, devoid of concrete meaning, and lacking in.... identity. Ironically enough.
Uhm, Yes and Yes. Although I might add that Team Identity, while nothing more than a catch phrase, does have an accepted meaning. Even if it's nothing more than a catch phrase. Pretty much all announcers that I have heard use it in any sport use it in the same way with the same meaning. So I think we can establish that it does have a industry accepted meaning. But your term "Buzz Word" is accurate when describing identity.
He's just repeating stuff that Charles Barkley says. Charles is stupid. People who listen to Charles are stupid. The end.
Team Identity is actually a real term used in Philosophy and Critical Thinking. It helps you to recognize the best way to organize a group by the members strengths and weaknesses other than that I completely agree with what you said. The teams identity should be forcused on the members greatest strength.
LOL, I don't even watch that show. Please don't speak for me, you don't even want to speak for yourself. If you don't want to b in this conversation, then don't be.
