I hope O'Brien is the guy because I can't wait to see the dumb look on PSU fans who are taking this recruit seriously. O'Brien has been talking to almost every NFL team and his buyout got lowered after last season. He may not be coming to the Texans, but he will bite on a NFL job sooner rather than later. Where there is smoke, there is fire.

Son you're going to learn a big life lesson about getting effed.

Lol at any reporter, analyst, recruit, etc.. that thinks O'Brien is a lock to return to PSU. Why in the world would anyone negotiate to have a buyout lowered if there was no chance they'd consider a new job?

He took his name out of the running for jobs last year before teams had decided who to hire (meaning he wasn't denied the job) and made a public statement that he was returning to Penn State. I don't know if the buyout had anything to do with that or not. But I won't believe he's returning to Penn State until he makes a similar gesture. If he was THAT committed to Penn State, he probably wouldn't have started taking interviews again this year.

I would tell a recruit nothing. if he asks just say 'I can't talk about that stuff'. Also just don't be in contact with recruits while you are fleshing out a contract so you don't have to answer such things.

If you'd do that, you may as well take out your 45, point it at your foot and pull the trigger. Any recruit will take that as "I'm probably gone" and commit elsewhere. You can't destroy your recruiting because you may not ultimately get the other jobs and will still have to compete next year.

To be honest we don't know what he told the recruit and what the recruit heard.

He could have said, "I am the head coach. Nothing has changed."

The recruit may have heard, "I am the head coach. I am returning."

Houston Texans plan to hire new coach by Tuesday

The Houston Texans are taking advantage of firing Gary Kubiak before the season's end. Just as other NFL teams begin their coaching search, the Texans plan to be choosing their future leader.

The organization plans to wrap up its coaching search by Tuesday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Saturday, per sources familiar with the team's thinking.

"The process continues," Texans owner Bob McNair told the Houston Chronicle. "We have other interviews scheduled next week. It isn't over."

As Rapoport reported earlier this week, the Texans interviewed Bill O'Brien on Thursday and the Penn State coach remains one of the team's top choices. O'Brien had his NFL buyout reduced from $13 million to $6.5 million in March. That news was made public in June.

Houston also interviewed interim coach Wade Phillips for the permanent job, as owner Bob McNair promised they would, Rapoport added Saturday.

Rapoport previously reported the Texans interviewed former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith.

According to Mr. Rapsheet, the Texans planned to interview one more candidate Monday before settling on their future coach.

no they wouldn't. Anyways, lying to a recruit would be just as damning to future recruiting.

    Hope this is credible:

Just got a text from a friend close to the Texans... Bill O'Brien has agreed to the financial compensation to become the next head coach, but there is still debate about control of personnel... They do expect the deal to be done in the next few days.

McNair must be holding out to hang on to Marciano?

Or is BO'B trying to get his own GM in there?

There is no reason for O'Brien to be honest about the job situation...it does him absolutely no good to say anything other than "I will be the head coach for Penn State". If he says anything else, he risks having the recruit go elsewhere...which would blow if he actually returns to PSU. If he gets the head coaching job that he wants, then it doesnt matter at all what he told any recruit.

    Marciano is gone already.

Deal could be agreed upon, and they could just be waiting until the season is over to announce.

Or, they may not even be close and O'Brien may want to stay at PSU. Who knows?

One thing I do know is that we won't hear anything official until at least Monday or Tuesday, and we won't hear anything credible until probably later tomorrow night.

I must have missed that as I was popping bottles, lighting sparklers and pouring champagne baths in celebration of Kubes' canning
