No amount of fire or freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart.

I would tell people how important eating healthy is, as well as being mentally healthy with positive thoughts, happiness and staying away from stress.

Start with these three lists. I've read most of these works. Cross-reference them of course, and try to read at least 30-45 minutes per day. Some novel's theme and flow may be difficult to apprehend than others, but keep at it like a strenuous workout. It's very good for your brain and overall education.

    Read all you can.
See as much of the world as you can.
Listen to all kinds of music.
    Stay active... physically.
    Live without expectations.

(we only teach what we need to learn ourselves)

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.

Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.

    Biased, but:

    - Education/Learning/Intelligence is the one thing that cannot be taken away from you, and it is the one thing that can take you anywhere you want to go.

    - Respect your teachers, especially the good ones. The responsibility and difficulty that comes from teaching a class of 30+ students warrants respect. It is, without question, one of the hardest jobs in the world. When you consider that a teacher's goal is to make sure that all students understand topics and apply their learning in complex ways, a level of appreciation is deserved. And, if you're lucky, you'll have a teacher that is compassionate, invested and makes learning fun and engaging.

This is a current standard that I'm teaching impoverished 7th and 8th graders:

Cite the textual evidence that most strongly supports an analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.

It may seem easy to you, but then again, you're probably proficient in English. My "kids" are English Language Learners, so it's a battle in multiple ways.

-Never leave your family or close friends on bad terms. Even if it's in a conversation, you never know when someone's life comes to an end, and you don't want your memory of that person to be poisoned with a final bad moment together.

    Good thread. :)
