Also Bynum is just not motivated playing for a losing team at this point in his career. I don't believe for a moment that he doesn't want to play basketball. He just doesn't want to play for the Cavs.

Surely you jest. Morey is trying to acquire picks for the next big move, not unload them for small roster improvements.

    torocan pretty much nailed it.

    Example:

Trade 1: Omer Asik for Andrew Bynum

Trade 2: Donatas Motiejunas and Ronnie Brewer for Dion Waiters

Rockets can either waive or keep Bynum. There are benefits (both on-court and cap-wise) to either approach.

However, I'm not so sure the Cavs want to risk their 2014 cap room for Asik. Hence, their lack of interest. They're still after the Lebron pipe dream. It might need to be a 3-team deal, with Asik going to the third team and assets coming to Cleveland.

perhaps a three team deal could be worked out between the rockets, cavs and nets.

something along the lines of asik going to Cle, bynum to bkn, and either varejao or KG to houston in addition to a first from cle or perhaps waiters (or any form of young talent\sweeteners).

As much as I detest Kevin Garnett as a human being, he is still semi useful. I think we'd get smarter and especially better defensively. hopefully just not douchey...

We should pick up Bynum and then trade Omer for a 1st round pick.

We also need to keep in mind that Lebron has TWO player options.

He can opt out for 2014/15 AND 2015/16.

    http://hoopshype.com/salaries/miami.htm

So, the timing of when Lebron declares free agency is significant in terms of how teams structure their rosters.

Asik's cap hit of $8.3M (versus Bynum's $12.5M) would actually reduce Cleveland's salary obligations to $44M for next year. They also have team options on an additional $13M in salary so could easily waive or trade enough players to get to the point that they could retain Asik and still bid on Lebron next season. On top of that Asik will be an expiring after this season, so will still be tradable to clear additional cap space should the desire to keep Varajao come into play.

Taking on Asik won't necessarily prevent Cleveland from clearing sufficient cap space for a shot at Lebron this season or the next season. And would make for a legitimate trade asset to get Lebron if it involves a sign and trade. Asik + Varajao would be $18M in salaries... more than enough to swing a sign and trade for Lebron even if he demands the max.

So there are lots of permutations in terms of how Cleveland plans out its future, and Asik wouldn't necessarily significantly hurt them in that respect.

This is exactly why Morey kept the room exception available.

"Greg Oden expanding pregame workouts, getting closer to return with Heat http://t.co/SpClNKjf7h" -@basketballtalk

"Aldridge: Nets have 'no interest' in Andrew Bynum." http://t.co/WPdSY40Lek

Seems like nets & heat could be out mix, if clippers pass then we should next up to sign him for the vet min.

So basically bynums a big expiring contract. If the cavs are serious about just releasing him that means they don't feel like any team has what they want in return and would just rather take the cap space.

Is this posturing by them or do they seriously not like any trade offers out there or maybe teams aren't offering much in trade?

I'm with you, don't think he's worth the risk on this contract would rather have a proven playoffs vet like lee if we were going to spend this

    Waiters contract
    2013-2014 3,894,240
    2014-2015 4,062,000
    2015-2016 5,138,430

I stated the same in a previous post...KG is a perfect fit and can be had sooner than any other elite PF.

I would love him on this team...tough, vocal leader with that Bulldog in him we are missing on this team.we need an enforcer and KG is still very good and fits the bill.

I think his contract is not a horrible fit either.

KG SHOULD BE ON THE ROCKETS RADAR..POINT BLANK

Problem is that current kg is like a rabid dog without teeth. He is done. As far as veteran presence with championship caliber goes, ever heard of KM?

    And you assume this why?

his body of work screams legit....people get in their feelings too much but when you talk about the basketball player you will then see his worth....especially to a rocket team that really needs stability at the 4.Jones is not ready yet but will be pretty damn good in another year or two.

Body of work my ass, who gives a damn about "body of work" when that mans body barely works?

He is old as balls, slow, no heart, no fire, cashing in a pay check bc he can.

    Again you assume this because?

sounds like one sided opinions with no facts...

his team is really bad and we wont talk about the coaching situation:rolleyes: but who drafted KG again?

His body of work preludes his success.

Watch out for Dallas. Think a reverse protection trade could work for both sides. Asik for Shawn Marion and a pick that is unprotected between the end of the lottery and pick 20.
