Mario Williams made it? Haven't been paying attention but I thought he was sucking in buffalo.

He certainly hasnt lived up to his contract, but he's still been a pro bowl level player.

He's been just as good as he was here, the problem is that he's getting paid like a game changing wrecker, and anyone that watched him here knows he isn't that guy.

I'm sure we'll be in the same boat when JJ gets an even bigger deal than Mario. Contracts for defensive players are ridiculous.

JJ's upcoming contract terrifies me. Watt is as dominant as any defensive player can be, and we still see how much our D struggles. He is going to command an even bigger deal than Mario did, and I'm not sure if it's in any teams best interest to pay a defensive player that much.

Letting him go may be the pragmatic choice, no matter how much I love him.

Yeah, paying someone all that money and still lose 13 in a row. The last 3 seasons were a waste with Kubiak. Team could've perhaps won something before giving big dollars.

Happy for Dre and JJ. Well earned.. and better for their stats.

When does All-Pro get announced? Beast stat as there's only two 1st Teamers per year.
    Megatron and _______ (probably Gordon).

It's more of a reflection of just how bad this defense is, and just how good JJ Watt is.

Opposing offenses have only ONE player to worry about on this defensive front. They get by with one on one coverage against our pass-rushing specialist OLB's (which shouldn't happen), and they can even get by with TE's and RB's being able to stop the pass rush.

The fact that Watt has been able to continue to be an elite pass rusher and run stopper despite getting ALL the attention from the opposing teams game plan is truly remarkable. He's the player you build a defense around... and the type of player that doesn't come around often.

No team can win with just one or two great players on either side of the ball. It's the ultimate team sport. Great players help build that team, but they can't do it all by themselves.

Thats actually the point I was making, Watt is the best defensive player in football. He's as dominant as any player has ever been, and our defense still sucked. If we soak 20 million dollars into one player it will be tough to build the great defense around him. If you notice the consistently great teams rarely hand out big contracts to anybody except QB's.

20 million may be conservative, mario made 16 million and JJ is much better than Mario.

It will not be hard to build a defense around one player, despite what he is making.

You just need to get expected/consistent performance out of first round (Merclius), and second round (Reed) picks in a system that relies on OLB's to create havoc on almost every pass play. This defense looked pretty good when they had upgrades/improved performance at nearly every position 2 years ago.

Again, the fact that Watt has continued to be dominant by being the only defender offenses have had to scheme against is truly remarkable, and you don't give that up.

Shows how unvaluable any player is other than QB.

J.J. is a guy you pay... And you make cap room to pay him by not paying a #2 corner like J.Jo $11 million a year. Or a running back big money when it's a passing league.
