Then you'd never take a QB. Honestly, aside from Andrew Luck, when was the last time there was a "sure bet" coming out of college to the pros? Matt Leinart?

There are no sure bets. You take calculated risks. If you're the guy paid to make the decision and you believe Bridgewater has it in him to lock down the QB position for your team for a long time, then you take him...because the reward of drafting the right QB is hella-high in the NFL right now

I have been watching the Texans and the Seahawks all season. With another offseason with the QB guru, Manziel could be the next Russell Wilson. If Johnny can elevate his game to be like a Wilson. He is exactly what this team needs.

How does this plan work with Jacksonville possibly taking Johnny at 4th overall?

How many QBs will be left by round two? Scraps? That's what worries me. The Texans better not screw this up. They must get a QB before they do anything else.

And that's why guys like Weeden, Locker, Gabbert, Ponder, and Sanchez get picked so high and why each of those franchises need or have already gotten a new QB. Do the Texans need a QB? Absolutely, but reaching for a QB has proven time and time again to be a bad decision.

BTW I am not saying Bridgewater would be a reach by any means. He is by all accounts the highest rated QB in this year's class and if the Texans feel like he is our guy, then I'm on board. But as far as QBs taken with the #1 overall pick, the percentage that have actually panned out to be franchise QBs is slim and if there is any doubt about Teddy or any of the QBs rated as 1st rounders, then I'd rather them go with the best player available.

Stupidity sometimes just wins...As he keeps doing things just like this, he maximally jeopardizes his NFL career and his potential earning opportunity. What ever the Texans decide to do, I pray its the right decision. God knows that we need something to totally change this franchise and bring it back to relevance. Two in such a short period of time is quite ridiculous. Its as if he already knows he is gonna bank, so might as well act like a reckless clown. Pun intended!

If Barr is selected ahead of him, he has no one to blame but himself.

He honestly doesn't seem like he's cares too much which is scary since he hasn't even been drafted yet.

Seriously....no to Clowney. No no no. The road to football hell was paved with all world talent that simply wanted a paycheck.

They will. No matter what they do it will prove to be the wrong decision.

Wouldn't they take Bridgewater if we took Clowny? St. Louis will take Mathews.

But I am thinking the QB market is going to be too hot to pull this off. I think Bridgewater, Bortles, Manziel and Carr will all go in the first 8 picks.

Schefter: Texans GM Rick Smith is spending the entire week studying QBs in the event any of them turn pro. Smith was in Orlando Saturday night to scout Teddy Bridgewater and Stephen Morris. He's scheduled to be in El Paso Monday to see Marcus Mariota and scheduled to be at the Sun Bowl Tuesday to watch Logan Thomas and Brett Hundley. On Wednesday, he'll be at the Fiesta Bowl to watch Bryce Petty and Blake Bortles before finishing the week at the Orange Bowl to watch Tajh Boyd and Braxton Miller. In other words, if the Texans can lock up the number one pick today, Smith will have scouted any QB he could draft with the number one overall pick.

Speeding tickets are a non-issue. Who doesn't speed?

For a guy that kinda half-asses it on and off, it magnifies his issues a bit.

What is your definition of slim?

In the last 30 years, 17 QBs have gone #1. 9 have made at least 1 Pro-Bowl, and that does not include Stafford or Luck (65% including those). 4 have gone on to win multiple superbowls or become all-time greats (Elway, Aikman, Manning, Manning - 23%). Since 2000, here's your list:

Successes: Luck, Newton, Stafford, Eli Manning, Palmer*, Vick (Palmer was derailed by injuries by looked like a franchise QB until then)

    Mixed/Uncertain: Smith, Bradford

    Failures: Russell, Carr

I don't think that fits a reasonable definition of "slim".

Different circumstances, entirely. Clowney needs to prove "he gets it".

Clowney will be top 5 not #1... end of story.

Smith already scouted the only QB he could draft with the #1 overall pick when he watched Bridgewater last night. (Well, I guess Mariota would be a possibility if he came out). We'd only draft those other QBs in later rounds or if we traded down. Tajh Boyd and Braxton Miller are not #1 candidates.
