That's surprising to hear. Did these three children stay alert when watching the first Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy? I too saw it with < 15 y.o. kids, and they loved every minute of it. They all read the books, however.

    This is probably the case.

    Stupid, stupid question.

    BOTH.

Me, after eating at The Falling Waters restaurant (3 stars, $$$) in Rivendell, I show up at The Elven Bunny Ranch (standing before the lineup):

Madame Galadriel: "And what has the 'cravenly, didn't-destroy-the-One-Ring, accepted-the-lesser-ring-from-Sauron, would-rather-be-a-Ringwraith-than-dead' Man chosen?"

"I'll have the Elven Club Sandwich."

    "Excellent! What kind of bread?"

"Can I have Tauriel on one side and Arwen on the other?"

"Of course. If you wish, we do have myself as an option tonight."

"Uuuuuuuuuh....no thanks. Too dry for my taste."

Is The Hobbit Cafe still there in Richmond? I went there last decade... the food was schitte, but cute concept.

    It's there.

The Tolkien estate recently tried to sue them because they used the name without permission, but they won their court case, as the judge ruled that the term "hobbit" has entered the popular lexicon, and therefore is not bound by any rights that the estate might own.

You can read about it here:

I very much liked the movie. I went in, not really caring to see it, but we had time and babysitters, so why not?

When you see Smaug for the first time, it's intense, but as some have said, it starts to run a little long.

I saw it in non-HFR and all that, so I definitely want to see it how it was intended if possible.

Go to the Hobbit Cafe for the craft beers and the patio when the weather is nice. Other than some decent veggie food and sandwiches, I'm not too much of a fan of the food either.

You guys mean the Hobbit Hole on Richmond? I started going there when they opened, and it were always the Hobbit Hole. When did they change their name? Someone sue them? I looked at the website and their "history" doesn't mention the actual name they had for years. That makes me think they had a legal issue with someone. Anyway, the food back in the '70's was outstanding. I lived in the area and ate there often. Times change!

Nice discussion, folks, and you take either both Elvish chicks, as ROXTXIA so wisely suggested, or you go for Tauriel. I don't think it's close, really, except that Arwen actually existed. ;-)-
