Do you understand what the role of a shooter is in basketball? His job is to get open and receive the ball for a shot. If he has an open look he BETTER take that shot or he will be thrown to the bench.

That's an odd argument. Of course no one is arguing in favor of getting 12 vet-min guys. The reason you sign guys for the minimum is because you are paying a lot for talent. The cap prevents you from getting 12 Dwights or 12 Hardens, that's why you complement your superstars with players who are cheaper and will hopefully give you more production than is expected by their contract, which Casspi certainly does.

Funny how you are willing to make the excuse for Ersan that missing Jennings and Ellis is hurting his game, but completely overlook the negative effect Casspi has suffered from not having Lin and Asik in the second unit with him.

And as we know, one good hot streak will land you in this coach's---um, make that "coach"'s---good graces forever:

    See also:

    Sucks, Garcia;

    Can't-Assist, Beverly

UNLESS: the hot streak happened on another team. As this same "coach" might say, "Golly jeepers, then you're just dead to me."

    See also:

    -Sanity, Lin

It's unfair to request a min vet to do things like a superstar
He needs to do what he can do, it's OK, u guys can't expect too much

The thing is, most of you guys wanted to trade him before the season even started, there was a long thread about it, and then pre-season came and everyone hopped on his nuts. Now that he starts having an "average" game again, you guys want to try to give him the boot again?

i'm convinced that many of you rockets "Fans" here are also texans fans, which would explain the wishy washy support.

    Weird and unfactual.

Our 'first unit' offense this season outscores opponents by 15 points per 100 possessions (1st in the league). And that's with Lin on the bench and Beverly starting.

Unless you're saying Lin should be 3rd string PG behind DJ Augustin? But I can't see why we'd use Asik to make that happen...

It's when he passes up the open shot, takes 2 dribbles and shoots a fadeaway with a defender in his face that there's a problem...

He's too slow to defend SFs.

His best NBA position is PF, and being used as a 'stretch 4'. He's passable as a defender and rebounder at the 4 spot, and if he wasn't our "first big off the bench" then I don't think anyone would be upset.

If we can move Asik and bring back a couple of capable backups (or even a starting 4), then I doubt anyone complains about Casspi anymore.

Those same idiots need to realize that he is the first off the bench because with Lin injured, we have NO ONE ELSE. If they should be mad at anyone, it's those scrubs like D-Mo who are wasting not only a good bit of cap space but a roster space as well.

These are not open shots that he is passing up. I only see him do this when a defender is coming towards him and he can't get the shot up in time. In this situation he uses the defenders motion to gain an advantage over him in going towards the basket, and yes, it often results in a contested shot closer to the basket, but he does make those at a decent clip (and is getting increasingly better at it, as this is something he has only recently added to his game, probably because he was asked to by the coaching staff who want all their shooters to be able to drive in order to keep the defense honest), so I really don't see a problem with that.

Yeah he's a waste of space for 20mpg.

Needs to go. Thinks too highly of himself and regards his talent above what it really is.

Doesn't pass, takes 1 foot fadeaway shots, tries to play point forward, on and on on and on.

Improvement in our PF spot is a must; either get a really good starting PF and move Jones to our bench strengthening it, or get Casspi out and someone that can play it better.

He is basically doing the same thing Harden is doing, jacking up his own stats. If he knock down half of his shoot, you would say he is god like Harden.

You missed the post prior to this.

What I said was that against mediocre defenses (most teams), then Harden + Parsons is more than enough to beat those teams.

However, against Elite defenses, or I would add teams with Elite perimeter defenders like Tony Allen or Iguodala, then you really need another play maker to take pressure off of Harden.

Harden + Bev + Parsons is vulnerable to any defense or perimeter defender that is strong enough to neutralize Harden (since he's playing the primary PG role with Beverley on the floor). Once Harden is somewhat neutralized (either through double teams, strong defensive schemes or elite defenders) then you're basically relying on Parsons + the PG (Beverley) to put enough points on the board to win.

That 15 more per 100 possessions is an average. It does not factor in the toughest defenses and defenders in the NBA, where you really can't afford to allow them to treat any members of our starting line up as a non-threat. Beverley's lack of offensive punch means they can sag off Beverley and double-team Harden, and unfortunately Beverley + Parsons isn't enough to beat those teams.

Against the mediocre teams you don't need that 2nd play maker. Against the top tier defensive teams like the Heat, Indiana and Spurs, if you want a reliable chance of winning you'll need multiple impact players on the offense or you'll simply get shut down.

Which is why if you're not getting a significant upgrade over Lin (short list, and most not available), then the easiest way to upgrade the team's offensive punch is to get a decent mini-MLE/MLE caliber PG to play the back up role with the bench unit.

You might not be able to get a back up PG as strong defensively as Beverley, however against 2nd units you only need one that's decent defensively and able to facilitate and score at a reasonable level.

Casspi can't play PF for long.....why can't we get better role players that actually fit the bill the best this year.

We always come up with those when we are mediocre at the 9th spot and fail to get better ones with superstars (Yao era)

Needs to get his head adjusted.

Certainly not coached to play correctly and within what he does well (spot up 3s).

I have no confidence our coaching staff can correct his play.

    He has to go!

People are arguing that Casspi is fine for his contract but he's not. You can find someone better for the same amount or you can find someone better who costs more if you're willing to pay a luxury tax.

    That's actually false.

    5-man rotation
    Beverley - Harden - Dwight - Jones - Parsons
    NetRtg: +12.7

    Lin - Harden - Dwight - Jones - Parsons
    NetRtg: +18.7
