WHY are FOULS so HARD on DWIGHT?...i watched this dude get grabbed by his neck twice last night...neither of them resulted in a flagrant...i thought a flagrant was "unnecessary contact without intent of contesting the shot"...Dwight gets hammered when he tries to score...this is random..but just saying..
The play is over once the violation (travel) is committed. A more obvious example would be if the foul caused a player to double dribble, then the player recovers and makes the shot. The extra dribble/step ends the And 1 potential.
This!!! And it is sooo blatantly obvious... It's so frustrating to watch, I can't imagine how it feels for Dwight. Our from office should create a video of all the obvious calls and send it to the league office
I'll take the other fluff as long as he plays like an MVP. He just needs to complain less and smile more.
It's not even that much. In the simplest terms it's just unneccessary contact for a flagrant 1, and unnessary and excessive contact for a flagrant 2. Intent isn't really factored in at all. As far as traveling is concerned, I feel that a decent amount of Dwight's travelling violations are the result of being pushed by the defender. He does have quite a few "unforced" travels, though. Another thing I feel that refs are crappy at is 3 second violations. It seems like they give most players 4 seconds before they call a violation (sometimes they don't call it at all), but Dwight barely gets the full 3 seconds before they blow the whistle. Dwight definitely fouls in situations where he doesn't need to and turns the ball over too much in the post (be it travelling or losing the ball).
Most refs will allow an extra step or even two if there is significant physical contact by the defender when he is making his move. In that case, a lot of his traveling calls should be And Ones.
IMO, Dwight has done a great job of keeping his temper down, and just playing basketball. Yes, he complains when he doesn't get a call, but who in the NBA doesn't? Besides, he's a big guy, they get hit...a lot. It may not seem much since he's a freak of nature, but it still affects a shot, or a rebound if pushed in the back while in the air. I've never seen Dwight lose it, even at times where I thought he should. He simply looks to the ref, states his case and moves on, nothing more nothing less. If you think Dwight is bad about arguing, try Kobe or any other star that screams as if he's been shot on a missed call. Dwight's come a long ways from his Orlando days that's for sure. Glad to see it.
Really ? First off all those calls are not all correct and second I thought DH was doing a much better job at not complaining.
Everybody travels and yaknow I think traveling calls is more of just a regulation. A lot of refs let it go n some call it when it's obvious. I mean how many superstar players have taken 3 steps. I think it's good to call traveling violation when it's so obvious but when it's just barley a tad in a nice play I think it's fine to let it go and that's pretty much what they do for the most part. Howard in the post though will get called almost every time cuz he's not driving in smoothly
Honestly, I think Dwight does complain quite a bit once in a while, but he is one of the most poorly officiated players in the league. I don't mind if the refs give Dwight the Shaq treatment, but refs also gave Shaq a ton of leeway on offense in terms of physical contact, something that Dwight doesn't get. A lot of the "offensive fouls" that Dwight gets called for were things Shaq never gets called for.
THIS I am tired of other big men just walking around the Rox taking 4 or 5 steps (sometimes some hops) then when our guys play D on this they get called for shooting fouls. I'm noticing that D12 gets hit on his arms on a good amount of his makes that other players would get some and 1's. I agree with the OP but seriously the league needs to review this issue with all the teams.
Some were travelings but because he is push on his move. The refs never tend to call a foul on the defender for pushing him out of bounce either. Howard usually is stripped with a foul and there is no call. Duncan and dirk not always get all ball. So really Howard gets no calls on his favor he is usually hard foul to prevent a bucket and that's when he gets a foul call. He does travel but that is usually when he puts the ball down and shuffles his feet before the ball touches the floor. He is playing terrific, he is the only one that is playing consistent and carries this team all on his on when every one is cold.
Oh and I guess u didn't see Diaw or splitter shuffle their feet. Specially Diaw had 3 post moves where he travel and no call. The refs are focus on Dwight and usually just call things on him like silly fouls when on the other end he is hammered. The Rockets never tend to get calls on their favor. Like Some nights when Harden drives or Jeremy too they get no calls Howard too. Idk but I would say it has to do with Howard leaving LA. He used to get those obvious fouls. Just go watch a clippers game and they get all the calls on their favor.
The two travels on Dwight in the Spurs game were actual travels, but they were caused by the defender blatantly fouling him. He is hacked all the time and no whistle. Big men just don't get calls. Same thing happened back in the day with Yao.
Duncan constantly puts two hands on the defender mid move which is illegal. Never called. LOL. It caused both of Dwight fouls. He had two hook shots last night where Splitter pushed him mid shot to change Dwight's momentum.
Yeah that was frustrating. Poor guy had more scratches in one game that some other big man had in a year.
