Gotta love these newbie posters. The Rockets have the talent to win a chip this year if they can get healthy. Understanding the NBA helps immensely when composing posts. Try to obtain that knowledge before posting your opinion.
Casspi is in a bit of a slump right now. Hopefully him seeing the ball go thru a couple of times for him tonight will help bring some rain. Started the season 47 percent from the field, 43 from deep.
Is this OP high? Casspi actually plays well off the bench. He's a solid role player. Garcia is the one we need to get rid of. He has the lowest PER of all significant rotation players. And considering all we really need from Garcia is his 3 ball, yeah dude gotta get in the gym or gtfo.
We have way bigger problems than Casspi on our bench. He is really quite talented but sporadic and inconsistent. Much better than talent less and mistake-prone. (For TRESSSSSSSS!) Casspi is one a year deal with a second year team option. I'd be OK with the Rockets retaining him.
I am one of the people who thinks Casspi has had a bad season and is a weak spot on the roster. However, I was surprised to see that he's 3rd in +/- on the team. Can anyone explain why? I don't get it. My eyes don't see what the stats say.
Casspi just needs to stop shooting 3's when he's covered and follow his shot. Other than that he competes. Decent defender, can put it on the floor and finish pretty decently. Can create his own shot against bench players. Solid bench player.
Heavy rebounds, some great games, and playing against backups. He tends to rule when playing against the other teams bench.
Its pretty obvious to me that Patrick Patterson will soon be a Houston Rocket again. After his salary was thrown in to make the Gay trade work, I knew it will only be a matter of time before Morey starts poking around at Ujiri to cut him loose for a Eurostash or a 2nd round pick. He'll be back… I gotta feeling. Ohh…. and about Casspi… meh. He's been ok. Kinda hard for that bench unit to get truly open 3's without Lin penetrating and Asik manning the middle so I think Casspi serves his purpose if he's running the floor hard, and moving well without the ball. I think he's useful and can make floaters pretty well off the dribble. Not real high on him and Garcia jacking up contested 3's like they have been. They need to get them playing off of a dominant player the other team is paying attention to game planning around. Off the bench with the current unit, Casspi serves more of a purpose IMO than Garcia. Garcia needs to be playing with Harden or Howard to be effective getting better looks from 3.
My response was to the question/comment about what do you expect from a league minimum guy. We need McHale to stop treating him like the teachers pet and reign him in. He needs to concentrate on playing D, rebounding and shooting open 3's.
What are you seeing that makes you think he's had a bad season? He takes a lot of awkward shots that seem like bad shots, but he actually makes a decent percentage of them. Maybe that makes him look worse than he is, because when he misses its like "what is he thinking?"
Compared to Garcia, Casspi is playing like Jordan so he is fine. Garcia need to be shippped out asap. He is useless, his 3s are not falling at all so far.
I never seen him play regularly till this season, but man does he shoot a lot of off-balanced lay up\flip shots. He'll drive to the basket and put up a shot no matter how difficult it is. And he makes a decent precentage of them. Is this par for course or does he have a green light from McHale?
If he didn't have a green light from McHale he would be benched or stop doing that. So far, it seems like he is doing exactly what he is being asked to do. Shoot threes when open, drive when the lane is there, move without the ball/cut to the rim, rebound, and run ahead for fast breaks. He is not a star, but he is doing very well for someone on a minimum contract, and I think he will get even better when everyone is healthy and he gets more time with Lin and Howard/Asik (I still hope he will come around). He thrives in a fast paced offense, and struggles more in a half court offense, so he will be at his best in lineups that push the ball. On a related note, sometimes I think some posters here have been spoiled by Parsons, and believe that any guy making minimum or near-minimum salary should perform as well as he does or be shipped out (for what?).
Vet min player with a team option in his second year. What's the big deal here? He can get a little trigger happy, but for the most part, he's shown that he's a viable option off of the bench.
I like this team as constructed. Morey has done a fantastic job of not just looking at basketball talent, but underneath at personality. Doesn't it just seem everyone could be friends on and off the court? I bet it's harder than we think to let Omer go. And 48 minutes of elite quality defense in the middle? We need Omer. But yeah, Casspi has more game than he showed in Sacramento or Cleveland. Think how hard it must be to be Israeli in America. Houston seems to enjoy his presence. Like Omer. Yao. He's not perfect, but he's also only 25 with tons of room to grow. Hedo Turgolu took 4 years and two teams before he blossomed. doesn't think he is a superstar. He's showing confidence, maybe for the first time in the NBA. He stays.
Funny, I have a feeling we'll get Chuck Hayes back for D-Mo. Uniting D-Mo w/ his country-mate Jonas Valanciunas. Chuck Hayes will be much needed in the playoffs against Aldridge etc.
Yeah, plus Delfino can put the ball on the floor and create. Garcia can't do anything at all when they close out on him.
