I'm pretty sure if you go back that far in your family line you're not any more related to them than you are to a random stranger.
one of my best friends and I figured out a while back that my people probably owned his people in central Georgia some time ago, near a town called Plains. in lieu of reparations, I let him kick my ass in tennis, but not in basketball.
I attempted to explain to you why someone you get the opposite impression than what you apparently had intended. Apparently, you were disgusted by your past, but some here believed that you sounded kinda proud. Do you think they were just going out of their way to bust your chops? You could be the most intelligent person in the world, but you will never be a writer, and that's what I tried to explain to you. To give you a sobering reality, in the same way that you apparently came to grips with your ugly family history. Ironically, you seem more hurt by MY comments, than you do about your own family's plantation owner past, which I find disturbing. Quite frankly.
I think finding these sorts of things is good for you. People like to view the world in very linear terms - good guys and bad guys. Reality isn't that easy. One person can be both a sweet loving gentle patriarch and a cruel slave owner. I know a number of Germans who grew up having to reconcile the gentle grandparents they knew, with the people the records show they were in WWII. Nobody is totally clean.
funny Newhart episode similar to this.... a group of women are coming to the Stratford to hear Dick talk about their ancestors who stayed at the Inn back in the 1700s. Sadly, Dick realizes he has to tell them all that their ancestors were nothing more then tramps that gave the men in the service a good time during the nights they stayed at the Inn. hilarious episode... i'll post a link if anyone wants to watch it: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ycNfdLhC4Mg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Great christmas thread. There was a time we'd take a guy like you out back and beat you with a hose, now you got your ******* unions.
What some dead relative of yours did 200 years ago has nothing to do with whom you are or what you believe in.
Every time you felt that a wave of white guilt gushing over you, just open up YouTube and type " polar bear hunting", watch a few of those clips and I guarantee the white guilt will leave you.
I think it's cool that you can actually read about your ancestors. Doesn't matter if they murdered thousands or saved thousands from dieting. The fact that it's al documented is really cool.. I know I'm related to Alice Cooper and an old professional baseball player from the 20's. That's abt all I know lol.
I seriously don't understand why What is still on this board. Anytime he posts something, so many people call him out. what...let me show you the door you grizzly fan
