A team will usually mirror its best player, and Hakeem was tough and gritty, likeable and unique. When we won the first title in 94, Hakeem led the team in almost every statistical category and the 2nd best player we had was Mad Max, who only averaged like 14 or 15 ppg on horrendous shooting %'s. Hakeem had to carry a very subpar supporting cast to the finals. It could be argued that Hakeem was probably the last player in NBA history to lead such team to the finals and championship. I can't recall a superstar every winning a championship in my lifetime with such low quality supporting cast. Maybe Duncan?
I beg to argue that the supporting cast was 'low quality' Robert Horry = won more championships Sam Cassell = one of the best PGs of our generation Otis Thorpe = SOLID as a ROCK Kenny Smith = solid PG Vernon Maxwell = superior defender , plus dropped 35 on the Suns on the famous Clutch City game Mario Elie = tough defender, he also helped the spurs win a title And the next year we got Clyde Drexler, a Hall of Famer We had the BEST SUPPORTING CAST. They knew how to play with a superstar. I'll never say that Dream won with 'less talent' because he was the best player in the league

It was a lower quality supporting cast than what most NBA superstars are gifted with these days. Look at the amount of experience most of those guys had, Hakeem and Thorpe were 9 year players at the time. Everyone else was way under that. Horry was in his 2nd year, Cassell was a rookie, Elie was in his 3rd year...Max was in his 5th year and having the worst year of his career. Dream did win with less talent because he was simply the best. Go find me any other player in NBA history who won a ship with less help and less NBA experience than Dream did in 94.

Look at Dream before the Clutch City heroes, he had Buck Johnson, and old Sleepy Floyd, Winston Garland, do you need me to tell you more?? Great, Maxwell led the team with 5 assists per game. You're just digging yourself deeper right now. Did you look at any of his other stats or advanced metrics, though? The 93-94 season was easily the worst year for him as a pro up to that point. It's not debatable. I liked Max too, in fact I liked all of the players who helped us win titles. But that's beside the point. The point is that Hakeem won with less help than other superstars were gifted and you still have yet to refute this. Anyway, its no big deal, Merry Christmas.
You didn't watch the championship seasons. Maxwell was awesome that year, you hide behind your stats cause you never saw the season. You do realize that Rudy T changed the offense right? It was different from Don Chaney? you know the former coach? Maxwell was a 2 guard, not the point. the offense was based on getting the ball to dream and having him pass it out. I made a thread about this. you can go on there and tell me how horrible these guys were, these were champions, and we had different heroes every game.
I remember the season quite well. I remember all of the crazy last second shots of Max's career, I remember how he was also a warm body on the floor in other games. Guy was inconsistent as hell, he would show up for the big games though, which is was nice. If he had only been more consistent he could have added a year or two on to Hakeem's career, instead Hakeem had to carry the team on his back for 75% of the 82 game season. Our role players at that time were good enough to get the job done, but none of them were exceptional.

Cassell helped the Bucks, Wolves, Clippers to playoff success Horry won 7 titles and everybody remembers everyone of his game winning shots Clyde Drexler is one of the greatest players ever Otis Thorpe actually helped Detroit make it to the playoffs Mario Elie helped the Spurs win a title Underrated Supporting Cast. I'm so glad Kenny keeps telling everyone about the good ole days on TNT. Our team was ****ing badass, and we wasted the Bulls with Jordan and his 'supporting cast'
