I can see Arizonians taking offense to the "wasteland" portion of that statement.

Lived there for a few years (Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale). That was actually a kind way for the state rep to describe that cesspool of human filth.

Say, that's an interesting username you have there.

I kid. Houston born and raised, have now lived in Mesa / Phoenix / Scottsdale / Anthem. It's relatively rare to meet a native Phoenician even here in town. Almost everyone is a transplant. Lots of northeasterners and midwesterners and Californians. Plus I love living in a city that has all 4 major sports, is within reasonable distance of a humble ski resort (where I'm headed tomorrow) and has very agreeable traffic compared to other major cities. Not necessarily a cesspool of human filth.

There must be some super racist Phoenix-native neighborhoods somewhere that I'm missing.

Don't get me wrong, there are definitely good reasons to live there... always sunny, lots of hot girls, great golf... plus the pro sports teams and Flagstaff as you mentioned. However, the people are a different story. I'm sure you are one of the few decent human beings there (I still have many friends/family that live there), but they are few and far between.

I'm not even talking about the racism... I think that part is way overblown by the media. People in general there are very fake, miserable, and scummy IMO.

    lol'd

lol'd again. Actually, the greater Phoenix area (especially Scottsdale) is basically wannabe LA. Except the people in LA ACTUALLY have money rather than being $30K/yr millionaires.
