Atheism has killed tens of millions of people. See: Nazi Germany, North Korea, Marx, Stalin, and Mao, among many others. Where do the ideas of eugenics come from? Not religion. Here is a quote from political commentator and Mensa member Thomas Beale:
This is a bit of a misrepresentation, one that gets thrown about by both sides. Its like blaming Christianity when a self proclaimed christian commits a crime. However, I will agree that millions have been killed for their beliefs by atheists. Genocides usually occur due to ethnic or nationalities, not their religious beliefs.
I didn't pull it from Wikipedia. I pulled it from a dissertation I read by a student at the University of Chicago. http://ptw.uchicago.edu/Lynerd09.pdf You are going to need surgery to get your foot out of your mouth.
What better understanding do we need of Christians believing homosexuals will burn in hell for eternity? What is there to discuss? There is no debate.
Red Redemption: your attacks on religion in this thread (page 4, for example) were hateful. After calling you out on them, you ran like a coward. If you are going to make hateful opinions, at least act like a man and defend them.
You agreed with a post suggesting that discussion and dialogue is needed. I ask what discussion is there? Is there some sort of hidden information on what the right wing thinks of homosexuals that requires discussion. Conservative Christians think homosexuals will burn in hell for eternity. Everyone else thinks they are idiots. No discussion required. This is past debate and discussion. No one will change their mind ever on this subject unless some poor conservative father suddenly realizes their son or daughter is gay and conveniently decides all homosexuals burning in hell for ever isn't a great idea.
I'm sorry that attacking religion for believing in magic, spirits, and preventing the progression of the human race is hateful. I'm sorry that you base your morality on a book and what a voice in the sky tells you. I'm sorry that you rely on this fictitious facade of an afterlife to justify your purpose and being on this Earth. I live and let live until religious holier-than-thou douchebags decide that they know what's best for me and try to force society to uphold to their archaic values. Religious arrogance. Defend what? The basis of religion being ridiculous and archaic? If I said unicorns were real would I be ridiculed and not taken seriously? I don't have evidence for unicorns, why is religion taken seriously? For all you people that cry foul when you are discriminating and talking down sinners, atheists, and non-followers of your specific religion as soon as religion is called out I'm the douchebag? Its my fault that I question the validity of an entire religion that was founded by the mind of schizophrenic or worse an oligarchy of men driven by power using religion as an indoctrination tool? No. I won't back down. I'll defend your right to believe what you want, but I have the right to say whatever I want about the subject much the same. I'm being hateful? The irony of that statement coming from a zealous group of dogmatic fools that base their entire morality, their entire way of life off of a fairy tale. And even with that you cherry pick from the Bible what you want to follow and what you don't want to follow. Even through all this I maintain that a higher power may exist, its possible. Yet the religious automatically see that statement as a mandate that the divine being that they hold so dear undeniably exists without need for trivial proof. Who needs proof? Who needs evidence? I'll admit religion does a lot of good regarding societal unity and charitable givings; or at least it did. Until religious conservatives started hating poor people for whatever reason. If there is one subject that riles me up to a boiling point. It is religion. Honestly? If you guys just kept to yourself and stopped turning American into a "Christian nation" like what Muslims did to the countries in the Middle East then I wouldn't have a problem. But no, personal satisfaction is not enough. Everyone much conform to your views or lest they be blasted into eternal damnation because your God, your religion, among the sea of many that have existed, and still exist to this day is the right one. It has to be right? Because faith. Not because you have solid evidence, proof, but because you have faith.
Believing homosexuality is a sin doesn't mean Christians think that homosexuals will burn in hell. We're all sinners. As a Christian, I believe that the only "sin" that will lead you to hell is not believe that Jesus was the son of God, sent to die for your sins. Being homosexual is sin to most Christians, just as lying, cheating, stealing, overindulging, and countless other things are. You have to answer for your sins, and I have to answer for mine. Judging others and what they do with their own lives is above my pay grade. 90% of the human race believes in a "higher power," so get over it already.
My God loves the sinner, but he gives them the choice to make up their own mind. He gives them free choice because he loves them. Simple as that. I, like many religious folks have seen enough evidence to convince us. 9 out of 10 Americans to be exact.
I don't care that they believe, that's fine. The self victimization and double standard is ****ing annoying though. Its okay to bash atheists, opposing religions, and homosexuals. Freedom of Speech. However when the topic turns to religion, oh woe is me I'm being persecuted!
Hello pot, the kettle is calling. You're being "fed up" is self victimization. Religions aren't perfect, because they are run by man. Men are flawed.
I wonder if Christians ever take two steps back and just disect the entire premise of their religion and what act god actually punishes. I go to hell not because I don't love Jesus... ****, If the Bible stories were true and Jesus truly died for our sins I would love the **** out of him. No, I'm going to hell because I require some evidence for that story to be considered non fiction. So in other words, in this universe the God of the Bible created, he HIGHLY values gullibility.... to the point where it is THE SOLE VALUE that determines eternal damnation or eternal bliss. I find this very disturbing.
I'm sure you pulled that number out of your ass since there is a significant portion of this planet were an atheist better just keep his or her mouth shut in order for self preservation. What ever the actual percentage is though, I can tell you one thing for certain......It's going down.
