I like how you conveniently stopped at 6 games. Because 7 games ago... less than 2 weeks ago, Jones had: 16 points, 5 blocks, 2 steals, and 13 rebounds or how about 8 games ago? 16 points, 3 blocks, 3 steals, and 10 rebounds Even during these past 6 games he hasn't been playing bad. He's not a star player, and he's still young, so he will have stretches of good games and bad games. He's not expected to take on any type of main role. His job is to play within the offense, play defense and get rebounds. And he's done that.
One of the issues. I think 5, 6 games road games has to do with it. He is not playing well on the road - Team lineup issues - Sampson as head coach - Shooting slump, confidence drops ........
Jones needs to gain experience, and we are giving it to him. He's not doing well right now, but the coaches obviously see him as the best option at this time. I don't mind having young players learn if we are winning at a reasonable rate.
Dude. Just draw a trend line in your mind. It is not that hard is it? Seems to be going from the top to the bottom. The bottom is bad. Don't you agree?
Don't get me wrong I like Jones. I simply don;t think he's ready to start, or is our answer at PF. He seems to be very streaky. He has a few fantastic games, then he disappears. That's not what we need at that position. We need consistency. He might get there in time, but he's not there now, and there's no real reason to think he'll get there anytime soon (like by the end of this season).
Understood, and I agree. He probably is our best option right now, but that is only bu virtue of the other guys sucking it up. And we're doing well for the most part. But this position is still a weakness that other teams are exploiting. He is not getting it done. Yes, he needs PT to develop. But this is getting to the point where we are losing games. What can be done about it? Nothing really right now. An Asik trade is the only likely fix for it. We have what we have.
Absolutely true. But I do worry that in Jones initial 10 or so starts he was basically not scouted and benefited from it. We will see.
He's been playing less minutes recently... he's just getting over the flu. He's played 24, 24, 26, 14. Adjust all of his games to per 36 minutes, and it's not nearly as bad as you are making it out to be.
What is there so great to scout? He is an offensive garbage man and rebounder with versatility. His shot was falling early on and now isn't. Opponents' defense will still be focused on DHO, Harden and Parsons. Beverley and Tjones can roam relatively free. Just a bad stretch.
You also have to remember that with Asik and Smith both being out, he's been having to play some center. And he's clearly not a center.
I never really watched many Howard games before this season, but am I the only one who notices his great footwork? His time with Olajuwon is clearly paying off. Its probably only a matter of time before he starts demanding more touches. He looks healthy, seems happy, is more mature and as I think we forget, is in the prime of his career. I think he's tentative with the post moves Olajuwon has taught him. Free Howard! He took a lesser Orlando team to the Finals after first beating a 66 win Cavalier team only few years ago. I know JVG is a Houston Homer, but hey why couldn't we win this year?
Jones has only played, what, 15 games starting at PF? We still have 3/4s of a season to go. If Jones doesn't work out, I trust in Greg Smith. He doesn't need to score, just get the 50/50 balls and play defense, which is why he's in the league in the first place. Chuck Hayes.
Not that YOU are doing this, but I hate it many on CF put way too much stock into one or two games (or even a week or two). So, naturally, I'm gonna' do that...lol. Over Dwight's last TWENTY games, he's shooting 61% from the free throw line. How about his last EIGHT games??? 65% FG's, 60% FT's, 14.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 2.5 blocks, 1.4 steals, and 22.8 points per game. (3.5 turnovers) Those are huge numbers! For those saying he'll likely never again be the "Orlando Dwight"... it's possible you may need to rethink that. His moves in the post recently are smoother than I've ever seen.
Nah if Harden were to go down we'd be screwed. We are alread a liability at the 1.... No 2 and we'd be 1 and done !!!
What about Indiana and Spurs? I was and will say that he is on a very good path back to old days. He has to put those numbers against elite competition. 13 points first game against the Clippers 24 points second game Clippers 29 points Portland 13 points Spurs 32 points 2nd game Portland 19 points Indiana He is getting there.
This year has been ROUGH for injuries. I haven't loved what I've seen from the team, but I didn't expect this young roster with a new centerpiece to mesh instantly. Add in the injuries and it just makes things tougher. Being 18-10 with a fairly though schedule and all the injury problems and chemistry problems early in the season, I would say is pretty good. And it's not like we haven't been competitive with good teams, we beat San Antonio, we beat GSW twice, we beat Portland and Dallas once and almost twice each. Things going all right. Give it time. All star break should be very good for this team.
How our members still talking about his 3 point stroke, teams are now sagging off him dealing him to take the 3 and his recent performances have shown that he has a higher chance of hitting the backboard first than the ring. It's not pretty
