I'm in a rental car right now and it doesn't have an iPod jack or Sirius radio. I have ZERO idea how you guys can even tolerate a bit of AM radio whatsoever. It's absolute crap, same ****ty callers with clueless minds, etc. I need a mix tape.
Oh wow! I'm kind of late, but this news has put a HUGE smile on my face. This is long overdue in my opinion. I literally stopped listening to 610 in the afternoon because of Josh Innes. I think he is the scum of the Earth. I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire. He is the most annoying on air personality that I think has ever graced Houston airwaves and I certainly won't miss his shtick. I found him only bearable in small doses and that show was unlistenable after about 5 minutes all because of him. He is NOT funny and frankly, I wonder about the type of people who think he is. He was a confrontational, immature, smartass. He clearly never embraced the local sports teams as his own and enjoyed playing the role of the outsider that needs to educate us homers about our teams. He often thought it was appropriate to refer to people regularly by their ethnicity and mock them. Flat out childish behavior that wouldn't be allowed in any other profession or even in the one he is in most places. Could you imagine a guy on ESPN referring to people as "that Asian guy", "that Mexican guy", or "that black guy" and still be employed? Then the jokes tinted with racial stereotypes where never far behind along with an inappropriate impersonation. I won't even address his homoerotic comments about things like how good other guys look and then the odd need to prove his masculinity was still in tact by talking about "making whoopy" with Jilly. Hopefully he continues to take his anxiety medicine and find a doctor to fill a prescription for something that will stop him from being a complete tool. Sean on the other hand does great radio and this is a big steal for 610. I've been a fan of his ever since he would call into the Jim Rome show many years ago. I've enjoyed him over on 1560. I hate to see them losing their best on air talent though. First Lance and now Sean. I will be switching my dial back to 610 for my drive home. Looking forward to it. Whoever is in charge over there at 610...thank you...I'm coming home. Long time listener, long time caller.
or a decent pulse of what roads to take to avoid the traffic. Think about your dad; he probably cares more about his pension plan and his bowel pattern than what's new and "hip" in the world. Yeah, that's Rich Lord. If you wanted Houston history 101, you could always turn to Barry Warner or, my personal favorite, just re-watch Brewster McCloud over and over.
This is a really interesting point and I couldn't agree more. I also think this is where so many sports radio stations miss the mark when they are bringing in new hosts. What people want in a sports talk host has changed over the years. Just like in TV news anchors, we have gone from wanting a stately, buttoned-up person to someone down to earth that we can relate to. More often than not, in order to do that, sports radio stations brings in brash, loud, opinionated hosts that you end thinking are less like you and more like that overserved guy sitting next to you at a game that does nothing but scream unintelligible obscenities to no one in particular and boo everyone who does something wrong. The guy that you are rooting for to step over the line so that he gets kicked out. The point is, that type of host is not the type that would come to a place like ClutchFans or TexansTalk and participate in good discussion about the team. Those type of hosts look down on the hardcore fans as the "lunatic fringe" or "nerds." There is another type, some would say Rich Lord falls into this category, that wouldn't engage on message boards like these because, for one, they are too out of touch to be driven to places like these. And second, because they are holding on to old perceptions of the industry that the fans are supposed to interact with the hosts on their turf in the form of calls and emails and hosts aren't to be expected to come to the fan's turf to talk about what matters to them.
I agree entirely. Even if you don't spend 24/7 in chatrooms or on message boards, at least make it sound like you do. The Bill Simmons archetype has far and away won the battle in journalism for the 21st century. No one cares how nice a way you have with words, Rick Reilly. We want someone who's inundated in pop culture and ready to spar over any topic, ESPECIALLY the one that's running 100 pages over on Clutchfans or reddit.
Merry Christmas Philadelphia! This is what you get for booing Santa Claus. Revenge is a dish best served cold. A pox on your house!
Funny, I actually use my phone via blue tooth to stream AM sports radio stations...since there are none around here when I drive. When in a vehicle with no connections: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875991014
Josh's problem is that if he pisses Philly fan off they'll show up at his house to beat his ass. Good luck brah.
We can only hope. I don't know much about Philly fans other than they apparently hate Santa Claus, Michael Irving, and Andrew Bynum. I suspect within a few weeks, Josh Innis will be included in that hall of shame. There is only one group of fans I would wish this guy on...Utah Jazz fans. I can see him now, running Mormon smack talk and asking callers how many wives they have.
I definitely feel for John Granato and John Harris. At this point, it kind of has to feel like the walls are coming down around them.
I don't feel bad for Goofball at all. He's the worst excuse of a sports host I've ever listened to in Houston. Never heard John Harris one time.
John Harris is a good host and he really knows football. I can listen to him any time. Granato is meh. I think he was just along for the ride mostly by having dynamic personalities right next to him to draw the attention with Lance and Sean. He knew who to link himself to in order to optimize his success. I think Lance and Sean are probably the two funniest guys on radio in this market. Lance goes a little too far at times searching for that laugh, but he provides epic moments of pure comedic genius from time to time.
I've only listened to John Harris a handful of times, but on every single occasion he managed to compare a current situation in professional sports to a youth team he played on in junior high or elementary school. Pass.
there's alot of quality programs on AM. Ground-zero Coast to coast Tom Tynan also that car show where that dude tells you what to and not to buy. all pretty interesting. guess you'll be screwed when it all hits the fan, and AM is the only thing left..
Innes taking a swipe at Lord on his way out the door...a class act as always. I'm sure third generation Eagles/Phillies fans are going to love his schtick! 610 just improved
OK. I look forward to Sean joining AM610 and we'll see if he measures up. It isn't like he has a hard act to follow. As long as John Harris remains on 1560, he will remain a complete mystery.
