It's more likely that Philly fans will instantly want to connect a battery or beer bottle with his head instead.
Thank goodness. Not only did he have the worst attitude in local sports radio, but it was clear that he knew little about sports. He didn't take the time to watch many important sporting events, and I can't recall the number of times he has been un-informed or flat-out wrong in what he said. On top of that, he was constantly whining about how people didn't like him, but he didn't care. Yes, that was very believable. Josh, if you're reading this: You're right about us not liking you, but that's because we're generally not big on arrogant, ignorant radio hosts who say things just to be controversial. Crapping on your co-host on your way out just validates that. What's more important is that we couldn't even respect you because of your lack of sports insight, which happens to be the biggest part of your job description. Learn from the experience so you don't get eaten alive in Philadelphia. Good luck.
Who he is as a human has nothing to do with his ability as a sports host. I have felt for over the past decade that Rich Lord just got bored watching sports. Sportstalk is an exhausting job. I mean yea you follow something that all guys like to partake in, but if it becomes your occupation, the thing with which you support your family, then the pressure of keeping up with each of the major sports and being in tune with the pulse of the fanbase can seem like I chore. I get that. But Rich Lord has felt burned out to me. He has felt burned out for some time, and he's no longer good at his job. He knows NOTHING current about sports. Put it this way. There's a very real phenomenon in medicine called physician burnout. We get tired of seeing so many people yell at us. We get tired of seeing so many people die. Emotionally we tune everything out. Worse yet, some of us get lazy. We stop keeping in touch with the medical literature and being up to date with, you know, the standards of care. Would you want a burned out physician treating you? No? Then why should we as a viewership be subject to a burned out sports radio host? No, it's not life or death. But it's his JOB. It has nothing to do with what he does with his family or how often he goes to church on Sundays. I don't get how people can listen to someone who has just lost the passion for what he does like that. Clutchfans get it. We hear that cookiecutter rehashed uninformative vanilla take coming out of his mouth, and we change the channel. We know he didn't watch the game last night. We know he goes to espn.com or nba.com and takes in the highlights. We know that he watches the games on TNT and ESPN, and that's about it. If the game lasts past 10, we can bet that he turned it off. When he dismisses a fan's opinion that the refs jobbed us because "that's just what crazy fans say", we know that 1.) he didn't watch 1/10th of the game, and 2.) he hasn't been a Rockets fan in a long time, so it doesn't matter to him anyways. Radio can and should get better than this. It sucks that it's just about football now, because football allows for lazy sports hosts. It's one game per week. Even guys who watch from the kitchen can pay attention to that. I do like Sean, I like John Harris, I like Lance and I like you and Wex. You can tell that you guys grew up local, you grew up fans, and you're like us. You'll know when to bring up that a game really felt rigged, whether it was for or against us. You'll give us a voice in the matter. Radio hosts from out of town just never have that element. And a guy like Rich Lord who defaulted his way into the rarified air of Houston sports talk certainly doesn't have it.
Appreciate the kind words, my main point was to say how classless it is to take a shot at someone on your way out of town. I know Mark, Charlie nor myself feel that way about Rich , so perhaps the departed ought to look in the mirror.
I have never listened to their show because I will not waste a second of my life listening to Rich Lord. As for this guy heading to Philly, if he doesn't know sports, he will be eaten alive in that market. He will be called out on air, and trust me the ratings will go straight to hell. I have spent quite a bit of time in Philly and have a lot of friends up there. This guy will be ripped apart!!!
Yeah, I don't think Philly will be good for him. If he was that thin skinned in Houston Philly will destroy him Bad move dumping on a coworker like that.
Mattj, please get back on the radio so we can have consistent, legit Rockets and NBA talk to listen to. It is completely nuts you aren't on the air during the Rockets most significant season in a long time.
I thought the pervert was pretty funny at times but he did get off topic quiet a bit. Rich Lord is so boring and a puss, he needs to grab his balls and tilt his head up.
I had a buddy who loved listening to Innes' trolling but I'm glad he is gone. I wish Matt and Adam were still on 790 in the morning.
Which one was Matt and which one was adam? I liked the one guy, but didn't like the guy that does the rockets games now
It's sad that the world we live in today is increasingly favorable towards this kind of yellow, slanderous journalism (how often have the different generations been saying something like this!). But the reality is that Innes probably will succeed, and he'll succeed by inciting all the wrong emotions in people. Anger, hate, prejudice, etc. He'll insult his listeners to their face and do anything for a quick buck. And the more he succeeds the more he'll engender in other young rising media members a similar kind of behavior. Let me at least say that, from the perspective of hardcore fans, we really appreciate the hosts like you that reach out. We pay attention to this stuff! We see you on Clutchfans. We see Nuno on Clutchfans. We see Lance on Texanstalk mixing it up with people. There should be more of this. Sometimes, though the masses do begin to agitate a bit much.
The guy who does the Rockets games now is Adam Wexler. The other guy is Matt Jackson. Don't confuse Matt Jackson with Matt Thomas who still hosts his show from 2PM to 4PM on weekdays on 790
I rarely listen to 610 anymore but not because of Josh Innes. All of 610's radio "talent" have moved on to 790. Wexler, N.D. Kalu, Greg Kooch (spelling?), two other guys, I forget their name but they always talked about rockets, they were great. I only listened to Innes if I was in the restroom taking a dump or shaving my face, but it seemed like he was always talking about something other than sports, which is fine but he did it all the time. It was obvious, he was just trying to make a name for himself as just another "shock" jock or "Howard Stern". However, I would much rather listen Innes than to boring, vanilla, cookie cutter Rich Lord. All the previous posters have been spot on when it comes to him. He brings nothing to the table. He plays it safe, doesnt actually give you an opinion. You can tell he doesnt even watch games anymore, couldnt care less. What 610 needs to do is hire a host that is from Houston, someone that cares just as much as the fans do of houston sports.
