I dont get why the subject of homosexuals was brought up in the first place... it seems like whoever asked the question was hoping for that answer so he could **** on it.

OP: learn what freedom of speech is. Robertson was not arrested for what he said.

Freedom of speech does not equal freedom from consequences of your speech from your employer who is free to fire your ass.

Of course, the wailing and gnashing of teeth of the American right is not about the loss of "freedom of speech." It's about the loss of the ability to speak against gays, and have the majority of Americans agree with them. Those days are gone.

Of course, now that public opinion has turned against conservatives' once dominant moral stance homosexuality, they think they are being oppressed. So cute.

He has stated many times that he used to be a "child of sin."

"I was a child of the sixties..." I'm guessing he's tried the ol' backdoor before.

I did read past the title. I read your post that started the thread. It was just as ignorant regarding our freedom of speech as the title was.

You can try to draw attention away from your ignorance...that doesn't make you less ignorant.

Why did the religious right call for the firing of Martin Bashir for speaking his mind, yet get all butt hurt because Phil Robertson is fired for speaking his?

GLAAD's response to his comments was more like the Nazis or KKK than the actual COMMENTS were. Love us or WE WILL DESTROY YOU!

in fact I'll go so far as to say that GLAAD is acting exactly like many of the white racists in the KKK would have.

Identify the group you hate (blacks/christians) and torment / prosecute them for being who they are.

Liberals are all for free speech until something is said that offends them. At that point, they go into Stalinist suppression mode and go on campaigns to get sponsorships pulled, get people off the air, get people fired, etc. Hypocritical? You bet.

In the meantime, the values that A&E defends only pushes us further into a world with no moral code and no sense of family values. It's destroying the fabric of our society. The godless celebrity crowd, backed by naive youth and the ignorant, continues to erode the character of this country.

    FIFY

See Sarah Palin and her supporters' responses to Bashir's comments versus Palin and her supporters' responses to Robertson's comments. The very definition of hypocracy.

The Klan was a terrorist, paramilitary organization that routinely killed blacks and white political opponents, sometimes en masse, for almost a century. They had full cooperation and coordination with state governments, and in addition to suppressing integrationist opinions they worked toward and succeeded in precluding all blacks from all housing, occupational and educational opportunities open to whites. This was also meant to maintain existing conditions against free and enslaved blacks that were in place for almost a couple of centuries before Reconstruction.

You do realize campaigns to get sponsorships pulled, get people off the air, etc are expressions of free speech, right? Or are you against that free speech because it's something you don't agree with?

    "Duck Dude = the Pope"

You have to shake your head at the intellectual stultification that allows someone to state this with a straight face.

That's quite the leap there bro, I believe the comment was they liekly shared the same view on one particular thing; I do not belive equality of the two was ever mentioned until you did so.

To the person who laid out the history of the Klan above; fine, I 'll back off my comment comparing the Klan and GLAAD and instead compare GLAAD to the protestestors (hate mongerers?) around the time of the integration of southern schools.

They have the same stance on homosexuality, it is a "sin" in both of their eyes. They just have different ways of stating it.

Pope Francis has said homosexuality is a sin, but that we shouldn't judge - it is up to God to. That really isn't any different than what the Duck Dynasty dude said.

Most Christians believe that sin is sin in God's eyes. Stealing a five cent piece of candy is the same to God as murder. Sound silly? Well that is what the Bible teaches, and it is what most Christians believe. Note, this is "the same to God," not the same to man, obviously we view petty theft differently than violent crimes.

The same goes for bestiality (which Phil mentioned), sex out of wedlock, multiple partners, hell - even obesity (gluttony).
