That's funny, because almost every law I know is based in religion or some moral code.

You think religion invented morality don't you? That's funny.

Next you'll tell me religion invented and has a monopoly on "marriage" too.

When you compare being gay to bestiality, that is hateful.

When you compare gays to drunks and terrorists, that is hateful.

    Hateful things offend most people.

If you put two and two together, it becomes pretty obvious why things went down the way they did.

Keep painting yourself as a victim, though.

Why are conservatives the only ones allowed to tell us how to live?

You guys can think whatever you want to, but when you come along and try to codify those opinions into law for an entire country, who do not ALL agree and abide by your religious norms, then we have a problem.

Feel free to say all the stupid crap ya want based off a mortal man's interpretation of what he thinks a god would want, but dont you expect the rest of us to live by it.

Religion definitely did not stop slavery or create the notion that women can be equal in the workforce as men or created the idea of free speech, freedom FROM religion etc.... Nope those are humanist ideas. Sorry bro.

Many of the laws I'm assuming you follow are based in religion. So, I guess you won't be following those laws anymore?

Like what? There are many theories on where some basic principles originated from. If you are going to say something such as murder, I can just point to the "social contract" theory.

But a Christian man in England (William Wilberforce) led the movement to stop slavery. He fought for the abolition of slavery vehemently until his death. The Bible does discuss freedom: look at my signature.

Bible: Exodus 20:13 13 "You shall not murder."
US Laws: In the US, a person convicted of murder is typically given a life sentence or even the death penalty for such an act.

Bible: Exodus 20:14 "You shall not commit adultery."
US Law: In the United States, laws vary from state to state. In those states where adultery is still on the statute book (although rarely prosecuted), penalties vary from life sentence (Michigan), to a fine of $10 (Maryland), to a Class I felony (Wisconsin). In the U.S. Military, adultery is a potential court-martial offense. The enforceability of adultery laws in the United States is unclear following Supreme Court decisions since 1965 relating to privacy and sexual intimacy of consenting adults. However, occasional prosecutions do occur.

Bible: Exodus 20: 15 "You shall not steal."
US Law: Robbery, Theft. Someone who carries out an act of or makes a career of theft is known as a thief, and the act of theft is known as stealing, thieving, or sometimes filching.

Bible: Exodus 20:16 "You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor."
US Law: Perjury, also known as forswearing, is the willful act of swearing a false oath or affirmation to tell the truth, whether spoken or in writing, concerning matters material to a judicial proceeding
US Law: Fraud is a crime, and also a civil law violation. Fraud is an intentional deception made for personal gain or to damage another individual; the related adjective is fraudulent.

Many scholars believe Locke's political philosophy is a result of his religious beliefs.

Interesting and all, but murder was also frowned upon prior to the Bible existing and in non-religious societies.

Regardless, you've missed the point here. You (and this dude) are welcome to share your views and beliefs. But other people are also welcome to mock those views, and employers are allowed to hire and fire based on those views if it affects them.

do you not know that making vulgar anatomy comparisons is unnecessary and can get you in hot water if you are a public figure?

it amuses me when another heterosexual male acts befuddled at the thought of why a gay man isn't attracted to a woman- that they have to actually express their disconnect that there are gay people in the world and that those gay people are attracted to the same sex.

(do you really need to paint such a graphic picture in every reader's mind to figure out why? completely unnecessary!)

and last time I checked he is still the patriarch of the business that made him successful in the first place.

why is everyone acting like they are losing a beloved television character or personality like he is Johnny freaking Carson or something?

Bible belt states also happened to be the biggest slave states. Sure it was accepted for a while, but even when it was taken away the people in these states sacrificed their lives in war to keep people enslaved.

    Thoughts?

What scholars are you talking about? You just pulled that off of Wikipedia. Many scholars think that Locke was actually an atheist. I'm assuming you haven't read "Letters Concerning Toleration", "Two Treatises on Government", or "Reasonableness of Christianity"? Writing of the concept of heaven and hell, he said "Upon this foundation, and upon this only, morality stands firm and will defy all competition" Locke read Plato diligently and this is a Platonic concept. His condemnation of atheism was from a political perspective--i.e., religion is good for civil society.

Also... the quote from Wikipedia is "Some scholars have seen Locke's political convictions as deriving from his religious beliefs."

don't expect an answer. When asked to defend himself after tossing the race card, Cometswin tends to go poof.
