Again, this can`t be true. At the time when Asik signed we were still in active pursuit of Howard. And Morey even stated publicly, that the signing of Asik does not mean, we won`t be trading for Howard as well.

So when Asik signed he knew, we were in pursuit of Howard - he might not think we would be able to get him, but he knew what he was signing up for!

Not sure how you draw that conclusion. If you had a car worth $45,000 and wanted to trade it in but won't accept less than $55,000 then you're trying to ask for too much. It doesn't change the fact that it's worth $45,000.

The people who are saying that Asik is handling this situation appropriately are wrong. He literally sat out a number of games because his feelings were hurt. Rather than fine him, or lash out at his immaturity, the team and the players have unfailingly supported Asik throughout all of this. The Rockets sacrificed a number of games early in the season to try and make the twin towers line up work. Then the team tried to accommodate his trade request, despite having little leverage and a thin frontline.

Asik is under contract and it is in his best interest to do his job. The Rockets continue to pay this person a healthy salary and he should earn his money. Screw his feelings. I don't believe this talk of broken promises for a moment. I am a proud member of a union, but a contract is a contract. If you accept the paycheck, do your f-ing job.

it was the agent who told him that promise, not DM. so he fired his agent.

GMs, players, AND fans all need to understand this. If he see's his career take a ****ter in houston, then who are the fans to question him?

I would dispute this characterization. He didn't go do an interview on ESPN, but the trade demand still hit the news pretty quick, even before the signing was consummated. If Morey had made a promise, he didn't forget it. And, there was nothing quiet about Asik's complaint.

Someone needs to tell Asik that the diva act doesn't look good on him. In fact, it's pretty ridiculous. If healthy, just suit up and play. Let your agent handle everything else. Asik, who's nothing more than a role player (albeit an excellent one), has made it evident to the rest of the league that winning is not his #1 priority.

Imagine how high Asik's stock would be this coming offseason if he accepted his role and helped this team make a deep playoff push.

Also let's be real here, Houston not only offered him more money they gave him a chance to start. I dunno if Morey made that promise or not, but even if he did what was Asik gonna do? Not sign a contract with the Rox that pays him 25M in 3 years and a starting job so he can sign with the Bulls for 25M/5 years a backup to Noah?

And even if Morey made that promise, he probably meant only for that season, seems ridiculous to me he'll promise something over 3 years.

Just not true, didn't bother Steve Francis, or Peyton Manning when they did it, or John Elway.

Remove emotions, and treat it like a business -that is what all parties are doing....

Just not germane to this discussion Asik has an elite skill that is a commodity, he has honed that skill and has the right to do with it as he sees fit, and yes, that includes refusing to play to force the hand of the Rockets.

    It is just business.

The best thing Asik's agent can do for his client is get him one of those modelling deals like what Chandler got. He looks so dapper in his suits on the sidelines.

He should get one for DMo as well.

Well duh? If you're the coach why would you bench the inferior player? If Asik suddenly started averaging 30-30s a night Howard would be riding the bench.

If a guy outplayed LBJ then he would be a bigger superstar than LBJ, simple as that.

Really??? You can demand a trade. That's fair business. But when you refuse to play or not put in 100% effort on the court when you get paid millions to fulfill your duty, it's not business. It's breach of your contract.

Morey had his sights set on Howard and never wavered. He barely missed out when Howard went to LA, and he know DH would be a free agent in a year.

I can imagine that they promised him a starting role, which he got; but to tell him they would not sign another center ahead of him? That's hard to fathom, knowing their agenda all along was to net the bigger fish.

i don't know what asik would expect... if the rockets had a legitimate chance to land the top center, whom they coveted for a long time, did asik think they'd let that pass? i'm also highly suspect of anyone in the rockets FO making that promise.
