Asik is doing the right thing for requesting a trade. An athlete can play only a certain number of seasons. Spending your prime years on the bench is a waste. And athletes have pride; and they like to play. Our coaches tend to run the first unit into the ground and the bench don't get much PT.

As far as I know, Omer is not "sitting out" but he's injured. I think he's been handling the situation professionally and with class except for that one incident which he apologized for. I think when he's healthy and back on the court he'll give no less effort than the other players.

    I wish him the best.

In business normal withholding a commodity establishes a higher demand and higher prices. A Hurricane is about to hit and the local stores jack up the price of water and batteries because they know water and electricity will be scarce.

However, in this occasion it only deflated value & perceived need.

Actually the only thing it did was show the Rockets that THEY actually need him more than any other random piece they can throw in the lineup right now. If anything his ploy helped the Rockets keep him longer than they might have wanted to otherwise.

Say dude cut it out with the insults. I don't F with you on here so don't F with me. You disagree, then do just that without the insults. State your case and keep it moving.

“I don’t know. My whole thing is, I don’t know what’s going on, on that team. Omer is the type of player that—he’s always committed and will always play hard. I don’t know what’s going on in the locker room or why he’s unhappy. Obviously a lot of it has to do with the amount of minutes that he’s getting to play and his role, and he feels like he could be more effective,” he went on to say. “Sometimes fans could look at that in the wrong way, but then again, you could look at it as someone who wants to play and be a part of something. If he doesn’t like his role, he’s not helping the team. So knowing Omer personally, I know how unselfish he is and just wants to play, so being my guy, I’m with him 100 percent.”

Oh and agree with Future rocket Deng;)

It's not a bait and switch. Asik cannot seriously be deluded enough to think the team would pass on a chance to add Dwight Howard. When Asik signed with the Rockets, they were looking like they were destined for a high lottery pick. They hadn't traded for Harden yet. Parsons was coming off an impressive rookie campaign, but no one knew how good he'd become. And Lin looked like a desperation move just to sell a few more season tickets(and get higher ratings in China).

Fast forward to this past summer and suddenly the Rockets have Harden, a rising star in Parsons, a great find in Beverley, young guys with potential like T-Jones, Greg Smith, and D-Mo, and are coming off of a respectable first round series with OKC. Now the best big man in the game expresses interest in signing with Houston after doing everything in his power to avoid coming here the previous 2 seasons and the Rockets front office is supposed to say "no thanks, we made a promise to Omer"?

Because the league has caught up to Morey's tactics. Sooner or later, Asik will be traded.

You really think that if someone outplays the Dwights, LeBrons, CP3s or Durants of the league, that the star player would be relegated to the bench?

Asik outplaying Dwight and all those other examples of someone outplaying someone else is totally not the same.

If David Wesley outplayed Tracy, Tracy would be riding the bench? Come on, man.

Great point. Even if Morey was a snake and did say this, why should Morey take the blame for Omer and his agent being as Naive as an 8 year old? Obviously you've seen this thing called the internet and apparently this new invention called Twitter and should know that the Rockets were fond of this guy named Dwight Howard.

I actually think Morey said something like this. Probably not outright, but led Omer to believe it.

What tactics? You say Asik knows his value, surely Morey does as well, and is seeking a trade based on that. Again, Morey would rather Asik stay, back up Howard, and win championships. Is Morey supposed to make a bad trade just to make Asik happy?

Can't blame either party for trying to maximize their situation. Both sides are still doing it right now.

And if they had matched, and he was getting paid to be a back up, he'd be pulling the same stunt?

I somehow hope a trade goes through that sends Asik to Indiana to back up Hibbert. That would be poetic justice.

Morey wants to get more than what he's giving up. That's fine as long as the other GMs are dumb enough to do that and for the last few years they were.

So Asik really isn't worth that much? He should be happy to be a back up making $25m, then.

We should just suspend him...since it's a business and it's painfully obviousl that he does not play with full effort any longer.

When the Rockets signed Asik, Dwight was still a long shot. The Rockets probably did promise Asik he would be the starting center. I don't blame Asik for being upset and requesting a trade if the Rockets lead him to believe he was their man in the middle.

I suspect that Morey has been trying to trade Asik ever since we signed Dwight last summer, but there just has been any interest. This whole Dec. 19th deadline was just an attempt to generate some interest in Asik.

I think we can see now why McHale tried so hard to make the twin towers work. They knew that Asik was going to be unhappy only getting 13 minutes per night as Dwights backup.

At this point all we can do is hope that Asik decides to accept his role as the backup center. And I think he will accept that role and be back on the court very soon. I think Asik is a good guy, I just think that after being a starter last year, he's really disappointed being a bench player again.

I think Asik will recognize that Morey and the Rockets made a good faith effort to trade him, but it just didn't work out. I think Asik will be back in the rotation, and there is still hope that he can be traded at some point this season.

We really do need Asik anchoring that second unit, Smith and DMo are a big drop off.
