Omer Asik Trade. Rumors, Tweets and Updates. (Deadline Dec 20th)

We "look" desperate but Morey always has the option to not accept any offers. Asik may pout but it doesn't make our team any worse than it now is, and we can still trade Asik later. So this "deadline" doesn't really hurt us. Morey could just try again at the Feb deadline. We'd have to put up with Asik griping, but Morey is thick-skinned.

Setting a deadline is valuable because it encourages the other people to put their best offer on the table. If you don't force a deadline, then the other teams just putter around on their own time and it takes a lot of effort just to get anyone to make an offer at all. This is a major reason why so many more deals go down at the usual Feb trade deadline.

Ill take the Sixers deal.. Again remember that Hawes is expiring Contract and
Bass + Lee dont have great contracts.. Y tie up to them especially if they are giving a crappy 1st rounder that probably belongs to Clippers 2015

Excellent post. It also lets GM's know that he is a man of his word concerning deadlines and activities.

 

He is sooooo overrated. The fans expect Morey to turn Asik for Thad? Rondo? Deng? etc etc etc. Yeah. It can happen. But don't count on it.

Asik's value isn't even close to those guys. Bass, Lee sound good enough.

 

Protected pick seems lacking. I say go with Sixers deal.

By committing to trading Asik by a particular date (in this case, a significant date because it allows us to repackage players received before the February trade deadline), you force teams to put their best offer forward. It makes perfect sense.

 

Rondo is a top PG don't count them out. Rond and Asik would give the Celtics a big boost come playoff time.

Now i'm not saying they are contenders but they a 3-5 range playoff team in the east.

Lol everyone knows Hibbert is better. Some arguably will take Noah over him. Tyson Chandler is another name people like. Asik defensively is obviously better but overall game he is overrated on this board.

GMs do what they want. Not like they were taught or no one would get crap done.

 

We look desperate. First off we have harden and howard there is nothing desperate about us and second off you don't even know the trades that's being offered or how negotiating is going. A few rumored reports is not much info.

Basic economics. He's creating a marketplace where demand drives up the price.

The theory is to place an ad, give a retail price (which is always higher than the price sold), wait for buyers to come in with offer, and create a bidding war to work your way back up to retail asking price.

Morey's original asking price was 2 draft picks and a useable player. Looks like they are getting 1 draft pick and 2 meh players.

-To be fair, Lee and Bass are both usable players, and will help. Lee is a good perimeter defender (desperately needed), and an excellent 3 point shooter (shooting around 40% lately). Bass is a good team defender in the post, and guards post players very well. He is not a great offensive player, but he can be hidden & can hit an open 15 foot jumper. Still, they aren't sexy names, and have crappy contracts.

So what this means is the demand for Asik really, really must have sucked, and there weren't very many bidders to begin with. He's being fair to the customer by honoring the best bid made.

I think in this case if they knew they HAD TO trade Asik, this was probably the best idea. Had they just sat around and waited for offers out of the blue, or just called every team individually, they probably would still have Asik leading up to the deadline or might have gotten worse offers with such poor demand.
