MKG makes a lot of sense. It's a Morey move. Gives him the flexibility to do another trade or keep him by trade deadline.

Probably a little tough to get done in time. Probably not, but its not impossible if they feel they really need them that bad.

I'd guess no since McHale will probably want to run them through a practice first, and make sure they get ample time for physicals, etc.

Rondo, Bradley, Green, and Asik core is a very very good team in the East. They won't threaten the heat but they will threaten the Pacers IMO who aren't all that good as their record says.

To let teams know we will take the best offer tonight. What difference does one more day make? We get the deal done tonight and submit it by tomorrow. Nothing gets rushed.

Boston would have the best 1 and 5 in the east.

He did it in order to crystallize the value of Asik.

Due to Asik's well known desire to be traded, then his future value is going to be unknown. His value could go up, or down, or stay the same.

By establishing a set time frame for the bidding, he freezes Asik's market value and creates a confined bidding time frame for an auction. This is one of the best ways to get value for an asset of indeterminate future value.

Think of it like farming crops. You have a number of buyers, and you can wait until harvest time to set a price but you don't know what the weather will bring. It could give you a bumper crop, or it can destroy your crop and you end up with pennies on the dollar.

Instead of waiting for fall, you take a snapshot value today and present that to bidders, constrain that within a set timeline to force serious bidders to step up and tire kickers to get out of the way, and go with the best deal.

While that won't always net you the maximum possible return, it will at least put a floor on the value. In other words, you'll get market value or above most of the time.

Farmers do this all the time when they sell their crops very early in the season.

In the case of Asik, think of the future as like the weather. Since you don't know if his value will go up or down with any real certainty, you take your profits now and move on.

Why use this season to evaluate him? Uh, why not use this season? Is it because he hasnt been trying? Wouldnt that tell you something about him as a player?

Who would I rank ahead of Asik on the defensive side? Well, I take into account more than just post defense...so I would say, in no particular order:

    Dwight
    Hibbert
    Horford
    Gasol
    Noah
    Chandler

    Now, ranking centers overall:

I'd list Howard, Hibbert, Horford, Gasol, Noah, Chandler, Vucevic, Pekovic, Cousins, and Lopez.

And yes, just because Harden can penetrate and give Asik a free basket does not mean that he is not an offensive liability. Asik does nothing, zero, on the offensive end that cannot be replicated by someone else. Looking at boxscores to evaluate a player is hilarious...watch the games and you can clearly see how much of a dud Asik is with the ball.

Things are looking grim. Really hope Morey isn't forced to trade Asik for junk simply because he promised he would trade him by today. He wouldn't, would he? Such confidence. I'm assuming he has another ace deal up his sleeve that hasn't been made public. Although I don't see how leaking the Celtics deal would pressure anyone to up their offer since it's hardly that great.

The flip side is that if teams know he's going to be dealt, it creates a sense of urgency among the other teams to make good offers or else Asik will go to one of their conference competitors.

In the end, I don't see Morey taking a bad deal just because he set a deadline.

Asik is overrated! Overrated Center on these boards.

So funny that u mention that because I felt the same way yesterday when Clutch mentioned seeing Morey at the TC and not asking what I or anyone else would've asked. That or he's trolling the hell out of everyone here and gets a kick out of *****ing with us! LoL

"Source: Hang-up with Asik deal is Houston prefers Young/Hawes over Brandon Bass, but Boston will give Houston a future pick & #Sixers won't."

Yeah he said he wanted 2 first round picks, cool. But put a date on it, now the buyers can see what the market is before they make an offer. They can adjust their offers by comparing to each other.
