True, but generally a player that is ELITE on one end of the court is more valuable than one that is just good on both. That is especially true when you factor in size. Size alone got Thabeet to be the #2 pick in the draft. Size + skill.....that's worth a ton.

I think the distraction become less of a distraction as time goes on. People get used to him there and go on. In fact it's just to be expected. Bigger things are happening during a game than to give him a 2nd thought.

And I'm sure Morey's already given him the... WTH dude - you've made yourself untrade-able. You want to be traded but your actions have made where we are getting nothing but near negative offers and I will not hurt this team just to trade you...NEVER going to happen. So put on your uniform and play like an NBA player. You're are well paid...thanks to us. You made yourself a name...thanks to us. Enjoy the ride and if you still want to be traded and you raise your value back up, then you can have the best of both worlds. Until then...

You are way overrating Asik. I can tell by your wishlish...no way the Hawks would do Millsap for Asik straight up yet you want them to throw in two first round picks? All those trades are very unrealistic.

Definitely true. Millsap is a highly-skilled all-around player. Very underrated defensively. He's an excellent defender. And he's a junkyard dog, he'll be there balling at the big high-pressure moments.

    All that being said....

It's still harder to find a guy like Asik, a guy that gives you elite paint defense and rim protection. Asik is a tremendous difference-maker. He's worth more because guys like him are so much more rare than finding the next 6'7" to 6'9" power player that can spot up and hit the jumper, can run pick and roll, and be a good to great player on both ends.

But there is more to basketball than scorting. There are a lot of players more skilled than Tyson Chandler at scoring the ball, but most of those players are still not as valuable as him because of everything else he does -- rebounding, help defense, clogging the paint, blowing up pick and rolls.

Almost the same can be said of Asik.

Millsap is a really good player, and I would love if the Rockets got him, but Asik (in a vacuum) is a more valuable player. Millsap would be more valuable to the Rockets though.

There is so much nonsense in this post....first, Asik has a 10 PER this year...that is way below average. He isnt playing like he did last season. His attitude has been terrible...almost Royce White style.

Second, you are over valuing his defense...he is not a top 3 defensive center in the NBA. He is elite in post defense, but that is absolutely it....He does not cover MILES of court on defense, he is not athletic at all (1 block per game, lololol), and he cannot come out to the perimeter to guard centers/PFs that have range. Where in the world would you get that Asik is one of the quickest centers in the league???? I mean, that is a COMPLETE JOKE. And he is probably the worst offensive center in the game...to say that he is not much of a liability is really laughable. All he can do is dunk the ball when given wide open passes under the basket...and he even drops about 40% of those anyways.

Asik being elite at defense is like being one of the sexiest ugly people.

I wish people would read the title of the thread Omer asik trade. rumors, tweets and updates. Stop with all the posts unless its useful information about the topic the thread is about.

I disagree. And I recommend you watch a lot of video of Asik with a professional coach or scout.

    Good day.

Guys your home might be worth $1,000,000 but if you're in a buyer market and people are holding out for better lending conditions your not going to get 100% for your home regardless of how beautiful it is.

DM can wait until the market conditions improve but he'll have to take some risk with Asik on the bench. Other GMs know this and are using it to keep the offering price lower across the board. There's no sense in arguing if Asik is more valuable than millsap. It's all about what the market will pay at this time....which isn't going to be full value. Don't get your hopes up. DM is a pro at this (trust the guy with the economics background), but he can't create leverage in a market that's not there.

Is there a way for me to just get a notification whenever J.R. posts something in this thread?

Sifting through the pages of arguing back and forth over stuff is taking up valuable time while i'm on the can.

Where does everyone get the notion that he is elite on defense? Any advanced stats that have been released by Morey, or talked about by Morey on the radio, have pointed specifically to post defense...Morey has never mentioned anything else about Asik's defense, even though there are multiple other elements to defense. Overall, Asik is an elite post defender, but is average in other areas of defense, mostly because he moves slow, has no lateral quickness, and cannot jump/explode quickly enough to get blocks.

Yes he would take some risk by holding onto Asik.

    But he does have leverage.

Here's the leverage: Asik can play ball and up his trade value or he can rot for a year and a half. Pick your poison.

Morey is playing the game the right way. Not allowing himself to be run over by players and agents. Sticking by his guns. It's the right thing to do.

And I know this, Asik isn't going to destroy team chemistry. Just like with Royce, if he gets stupid Morey will suspend him. Asik really has no leverage here. He's under contract.

Tyson chandler can consistently catch and finish.

As good as asiks defense may be, his complete lack of offensive ability takes away from his value. Just catching the ball and getting a decent shot up is a daunting task for him.

Could be worse. We could get more posts about what an Asik trade would do to Jeremy Lin's feelings.

If you want to know what the value for defensive big men are, just look at Deandre Jordan's contract. He is not even any where close to Asik's defensive level. Now look at Tyson Chandler's contract. Look at Noah's contract. There is a high value on defensive-minded centers.
