You can break his shot down and rework his mechanics. Shooting 3's is a skill, and like all skills it can be learned with time and practice. There are numerous examples of guys who had a broken J and fixed it to a respectable degree, from stars like LBJ and Tony Parker to role players like Kyle Lowry and Jeremy Lin (much better shooting this year compared to last year).

Thing is he needs time away from court to work on his shot, and he can't do that in Charlotte because the team wants to feature him to the fans. On the Rox he'll be playing behind Parsons so he can focus more on his development than his play on the court.

Okay when you have a hunch it is usually a pretty damn good hunch. So if not Atl and possibly Charlotte what gives with Al Jefferson plus they still have Cody Zeller and Biyombo. I guess they could put Asik alongside Jefferson but that gives them the worst 3 pt shooting team in the league. And who do we get maybe injured MKG and Biyombo. That's a lot for Asik what other team is involved and who else do the get. Curious how this works out. I know MKG can't shoot a three but everyone shoots better once they come here. Just shoot if your open. Even Howard got in on the act.

Actually this is correct, I dunno why that dude thinks big men have longer careers. Guys like Yao Ming and Shaq could've played longer if only they didn't get injured.

The ones with the longest careers IMHO are the finesse guards in the league, people like Ray Allen and Reggie Miller who spend their time shooting 3's instead of driving in the lane or banging bodies tend to play for a long time.

    Guys like Yao and Shaq?

Yao came in as 22 year old, played till he was 30.
Shaq was 18/19 and ended his career with 39.

Ray Allen's been playing for 17 years and still has no signs of slowing down (started in 1996). Kerr played 15 years, Reggie Miller played for 18 years. I'm not sure why you think Yao playing for 8 years is a big deal, LBJ has already been playing for 10 years and he isn't even 30.

I was thinking there is a discrepancy between Yao and Shaq's career.
Yao and Shaq in the same sentence does not sound right.

Shaq played 10+ years longer than Yao and avoided major injuries.
Shaq got injured when he was already in his mid thirties.

It must have a lot to do with Asik's balloon payment. The Bobcats are cheap. Also, they have room for a max contract this Summer which might be a small factor.

You fit my perception of the typical Bostonian.

Wow, because I don't think he's worth what Morey wants. I would rather Ainge make a deal with Philadelphia or Detroit or even Utah.

My point is both of them could've played longer except they got injured. In Shaq's case, he probaly could've played till he was 50 except he couldn't take the pain caused by his arthritic toe anymore.

When guards like Reggie Miller leave the NBA, it's mainly because they aren't good enough anymore to stay in the league so you still have guys like Arenas playing in China. But when big men leave the NBA, it's usually because of injuries in this case Shaq and Yao were still considered top big men when they retired.

It doesn't really take a long time to reason this out, big men spend their times absorbing a lot of contact while guards who shoot 3's run around and take open shots. Being a big man is more taxing on your body which is why they have shorter careers than guards who are mainly spot up shooters.

I get your idea. They rely on their physicality more.
We can actually watch how Garnett and Duncan age - perfect example.... they can probably play till they are 40 something and all they do is jumpshoot and raise their arms on Defense.

This thread is about the Asik trade, not Shaq and injuries.

Let me quote the title of this thread and make it really clear, "Omer Asik Trade. Rumors, Tweets and Updates. (Deadline Dec 19th)"

So yea buddy, its really unrelated.

On the other hand, I see the Rockets getting a better deal than what we have read about all day with Boston. I think a third team gets involved, and I see the Rockets getting exactly what they need to make a following move come Feb 20th.

I really hope its Hawes, I feel like he could complete this team as the regular season games go by.
