"My team in Orlando was a team full of people that nobody wanted."

    I doubt it. ;)

    We know this already:

    Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 1m
Among reasons Bass is still a Celtic ... most folks close to the Omer Asik talks still saying Asik trade is most likely to go down Thursday

I'm getting worried about the Rockets chance albeit slim of getting Aldrodge/Love or another highly valued player.

It doesn't appear the Rockets will have the right assets when the time comes.

It won't happen but if Morey could milk Asik for all his worth to turn Lin's contract into Bogans (5.2M & 5.5M) fully unguaranteed deal. That would be a small win.

Then the Rockets might to still have the chance to get another big name & keep Parsons.

Take a look at this pathetic game log:

Bass > Patterson offensively and defensively. Patteron is 11/42 from 3. LOL

LOL? Stop assessing players when you clearly haven't seen them play.

Actually that's not entirely true even though I agree that Bass is pretty much garbage.

Back in 2010/11 its important to note that the most used lineup Dwight Howard was in was when Bass was playing beside him. While they weren't the offensive lineup that they were with Anderson, they were still pretty good.

I personally am all for setting the price to Omer and Arm (say expiring contracts, 2 first rounders) and telling them… "you wanted out, this is the price you have to pay to get out" and let them go find a deal they can present to Morey to approve. I think he's wasting his time here. Asik's public demands at a time were the market is soooo terrible really screwed Morey during these negotiations.

Guys, both players make perfect sense from an on-court standpoint.

I'd say the single biggest deficiency for the current Rockets is bench play -- namely, energy and scoring along with wing defense. On those fronts, Courtney Lee is an enormous upgrade over Francisco Garcia. There's also a comfort level with McHale (who I'm betting would love this deal), based on Courtney knowing the system.

As far as PF next to Dwight, there are two main priorities. Defense and spacing the floor on offense. We know the kind of range Bass has, and as for his defense...

    http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4709406/why-asik-deal-makes-sense-for-celtics

Both guys fit very well, and this year's team would be significantly upgraded with this deal. Don't kid yourself; there are very good "basketball reasons" for this move. :)

Where things get complicated is how this meshes with the grand 2015 plan. Now for me personally, I've always felt like that was overvalued. The Rockets want to contend for a title now, and for my taste, it's too difficult to build a championship supporting cast if you're only accepting two-year or shorter contracts (besides Harden/Howard). Plus, as I've written before, I think it actually makes sense to push Parsons to restricted FA this summer and get a more team-friendly deal... and that in and of itself would take 2015 out of play. But those are just my opinions, of course. Any of those moves, including the Bass/Lee one, would be equivalent to Morey pushing his chips and being "all in" with this team. I think it's worth it, but that's always a tough call to make.

The other issue... if you disregard the 2015 cap stuff, is this the best move you can make? Would you prefer Bass/Lee, or Thaddeus Young? Or maybe someone else entirely? I lean to Bass/Lee over Young, but I could see the other side, too.

    You shouldn't.

Rockets have the biggest asset to obtain LMA or Love and that is CAPSPACE.

Dwight and Bass didn't have the best chemistry back in Orlando.

I am surprised that the Pelicans are not involved right now. That team needs a center to pair with that guy who has a unibrow.

People need to remember that Dwight Howard already played with Bass for 2 years.

In 2009-10, Orlando signed Bass as a free agent based on the theory that they needed a more "traditional PF" to work next to Howard than "stretch 4" Rashard Lewis. That year, Stan Van Gundy played bass only 650 minutes. They were better with Lewis and newly added 2nd year player Ryan Anderson playing at the PF.

In 2010-11, Orlando traded away Lewis for Gilbert Arenas. Bass ended up getting 26 mpg, but Orlando still played much better with stretch 4 Ryan Anderson on the floor than they did with Bass.

In 2011, as suggested/demanded by Dwight Howard, Orlando traded Bass to Boston for Dwight's pal Big Baby Davis.

If Houston adds Bass, what we'll find out pretty soon is that the team plays far better with Jones and Casspi at PF than they do with Bass.

Let me ask you guys a question: If Celtics go further than the Rockets and Howard has a showing like he did last year against the Spurs ----What will be you feeling against the front office???

Let me tell you why Morey should give a ****. Because no team wants to trade for a guy, making what Omer makes if he is going to sulk there. Seriously it can't be that hard for some of you.

To look at the bright side, even though I hate his contract, Courtney Lee does upgrade the bench tremendously. They really need his perimeter defense. You can also go small easier with Harden at the 3, and not lose as much defensively.

Brandon Bass…. geez.. he's essentially Patrick Patterson without the stroke. Not a fan especially as a starter (which I don't think he will be anyways). Good news I guess is that you only have to deal with him for this year and next. Still… I would much rather just have Spencer Hawes.

Also if you are taking back a 3 year contract anyways, you might as well open up discussions again for Thad Young or Ilyasova. Both are better players and fit more with this team.

FYI, 3 year contracts mean… essentially no Kevin Love/LMA free agent plans which sucks the wind out of your sails pretty quick for those dreaming.
