The more I think about that Bass trade is seems like that was something released by Boston to drive down the trade offers from other teams.

calling asik special is a bit of a reach.. if he was special than mr howard would not be needed here. Asik is a good (not great) player. We tend to see our players who are departed/ing with rose color glasses. He is a solid defender one on one and a rebounder, he is a weak shot blocker, and a poor offensive player.. that does not translate to being special. Oh and btw he is a shut down player at a position in todays NBA where not to many shut down players are needed.

Re: the Portland rumor, I just looked at their roster. The only reasonable trade IMO would involve Meyers Leonard. Doesn't make sense for Portland to trade any of their starters with the team jelling so well.

Leonard hasn't played a lot, but actually has pretty good stats for a backup. He's 7' 1" and has a jump shot.

Leonard + Portland's 1st round pick for Asik? That would be two solid, flippable assets with a lot of value at the trade deadline.

Aside from it being a year too long for the Rocket's plans, what makes Lee's contract so bad? 5mil/year seems fair to me. What makes it so undesirable for another team?

If that trade happens the picture of Morey will need to have Ainges face photoshopped in. He will haved traded a handful of role players from his bench for two starters. And saved money in the process.

Morey has never paid $5 million for a bench guard ever.

$5 Million for Lee coming off the bench? Add Lin...that's $10 million+ coming off the bench. Good players, but doesn't seem like Morey like.

He's special in that Morey could easily draft a player as good as Bass or Lee but not Asik.

It would be tough to do, but if I'm Morey at this point, I might threaten to not trade Asik, and inform Arm & Omer that this is a real possibility.

If they are unhappy with returning as a backup than they can do what they can to get out of his contract, or they can help get better offers.

Its important that Morey explains to Omer that YOU CAUSED THIS situation, and you are the one that has to live with it. You want to be an NBA starting caliber center… well do something about it because the fact is No GM's in the league really want you other than me (even if they kinda do, but aren't good fits or they don't want to give up ANYTHING to get you).

If I'm Morey, I'm very tempted to tell him this is what it is… either you come back and play basketball, or you deal with this situation on your own. I've busted my A#$ to get you out of here, but it just isn't happening without damaging my team.

Bass and Lee does not make sense without getting a third team involved and picks.

No way we get either of those two players.

You can't have 5 "special" players if the way in which they are special depends on having the ball in their hands. But you need have as many "special" talent as possible, if we are talking about being special at other things-- defense in particular.

I am OK with taking back an ordinary player ONLY as salary balance and ONLY if they are on easily flipped expiring contracts, not as the MAIN ASSET in return for Asik. If we get good draft picks (like the pick we got for Lowry), I'm OK with it. But if all we get is some late 1st round pick 2 years from now, it's crap.

Bass is an ordinary player. Not horrible, but frankly I'd prefer to just keep working Jones and Casspi if the alternative is Bass. Dwight+Bass worked together and they never excelled. Bass is also not on an expiring contract, so not the kind of guy you can easily flip come February.
