Do you really think Morey is going to go thru all this just to net us a reserve PF?

If Bass and fillers is all we receive in terms of players I guarantee you we will be coming out with at the least a protected 1st round pick (I'm sure not heavily protected) and a 2nd rounder from one of the two teams as well.

In the past 4-5 years has Morey really made a move where you were irate because of what he didn't net us??? I'm sure your answer will be no.

As the Rockets extract offers for disgruntled center Omer Asik before a self-imposed Thursday deadline, one scenario that has emerged has Asik going to Boston in a three-team deal with Philadelphia as the facilitating team, league sources told CBSSports.com.

One league source described the scenario as a long shot, calling it a "weird deal." Indeed, there would have to be strong incentive for the Sixers to steer Asik to a division rival. But both teams are strongly in the mix as possible destinations for the Turkish center, who has requested a trade after his role changed with the arrival of Dwight Howard in Houston.

Multiple league executives said the Rockets also are open to packaging Jeremy Lin with Asik, but that scenario appears unlikely as well. As one executive said of Lin, "I'm not sure there are many, if any, takers for him right now."

Rockets GM Daryl Morey scored a coup in 2012 by landing Asik from the Bulls and Lin from the Knicks as restricted free agents with creatively structured deals in which the actual payments to the players balloon to $15 million in the third year of the contracts in 2014-15. As the Rockets embarked on their ultimately successful free-agent pursuit of Howard this past summer, they quietly made both Asik and Lin available in trade scenarios that never came to fruition.

Brandon Bass and Jeff Green of the Celtics, Thaddeus Young of the Sixers and Paul Millsap of the Hawks have been among the players that league sources say have most intrigued the Rockets, who also want to secure at least one first-round pick in any deal.

ESPN.com and Yahoo Sports both reported that Cleveland and Atlanta were among the front-runners for Asik. Atlanta's interest has been lukewarm, at best, sources tell CBSSports.com. Hawks GM Danny Ferry has taken a guarded approach to the so-called Asik "sweepstakes," and for good reason. He is said to be among the executives wary of Houston's attempt to overvalue Asik and create what another executive called a "false market."

Such is the Rockets' job, however, as they try to extract the best assets possible for a player whose future clearly is not in Houston. There is some urgency to the discussions, as the Rockets would like to maintain the flexibility to trade any players obtained in an Asik deal in other deals before the Feb. 20 trade deadline. To do so, those players must be acquired by Thursday under NBA rules. It remains to be seen whether potential trade partners will view Thursday as a true deadline or a negotiating ploy.

A new possibility has emerged in the Omer Asik-to-Boston conversation. The Celtics were rumored over the weekend to be pursuing the Rockets big man, with Jeff Green and Brandon Bass mentioned as potential trade chips. ESPN’s Marc Stein reported early Wednesday that the Celtics and 76ers are now the front-runners to land Asik, but that any deal for the 7-footer would likely involve at least three teams.

“One possible scenario that has emerged, sources say, is a three-way trade in which Boston lands Asik, Cleveland absorbs the contract of Celtics forward Jeff Green and Houston scores no fewer than one of the future first-round picks it covets for surrendering Asik,” Stein writes. “Other players would have to be involved in such a trade to make the salary-cap math work, but it’s the sort of trade that would fall in line with Cleveland’s well-known focus on upgrading its options at small forward.”
The Cavaliers reportedly attempted to sign Green out of free agency two years ago before the swingman re-signed with the Celtics. Green has played in all 26 games for Boston this season, leading the team in scoring with 16.5 points per game. Asik, whose discontent since Houston signed fellow big Dwight Howard in the offseason is well-documented, has missed the Rockets’ last six games with a thigh injury. The Houston Rockets, as they’ve been telling teams all month, remain on course to trade disgruntled big man Omer Asik by Thursday, according to sources close to the process.

Numerous teams consulted by ESPN.com in recent days have said they are convinced the Rockets will indeed go ahead with a trade headlined by Asik before their self-imposed deadline of Dec. 19, with sources saying Tuesday that the Boston Celtics are increasingly active in the Asik talks.

As a result, the Celtics now are widely regarded as the strongest rivals to the Philadelphia 76ers in terms of the likely destination for Asik, with many rival executives expecting the final form of a trade built around the 7-footer from Turkey to feature at least three teams.

Sources have described the Atlanta Hawks as Houston’s preferred trade partner because the Rockets came to the conclusion last month that, despite their attempts to placate Asik, they eventually would have to give in to the unhappy center’s long-running desire to be moved in the wake of Dwight Howard’s arrival in July. Yet it remains unclear, sources say, how interested Atlanta really is in parting with coveted forward Paul Millsap — who’s considered an ideal frontcourt complement to Howard — in exchange for Asik.
