The whole harden trade was made out of panick by the thunder because they left it to late and gave James notime to decide and we're forced to take the best offer available.

.Anyway, with a draft this deep, even a pick in the early to mid teens with a package of a solid player will get you a very good player. Not a star or a allstar, but a very good piece.

That would net us Rondo, actually.

But, Rondo isn't coming to Houston, anyways. But, yes, that is how the packages start.

But, let me ask you this,... replace Asik with that top 5 protected lotto pick and does that trade seem more or less appealing to a team looking to trade a star planning to leave an organization? I say no way in hell does it look more appealing. You get the asset that is more appealing AND doesn't take up any of your cap in the mean time.

Not a star yet? They were offering to pay Harden like a star. More than $12 million a year. The problem your your precept ion is you think player don't have leverage. Well, they do and when a player like Love or Rondo(don't want him) asks to be traded they give a list of teams they'd like to be traded to. That can change what a GM deems valuable enough to trade for. Ask Orlando.

If Cleveland is a player in this, here are their draft picks. They don't OWE any.

I could see Morey getting 2 out of the 3 that are in bold. He loves those high 2nd round picks, especially with the way Memphis and Orlando are playing.

2014 first round draft pick from Sacramento
Sacramento's 1st round pick to Cleveland protected for selections 1-12 in 2014, 1-10 in 2015, 1-10 in 2016 or 1-10 in 2017; if Sacramento has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Cleveland by 2017, then Sacramento will instead convey its 2017 2nd round pick to Cleveland protected for selections 56-60 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Cleveland will be extinguished) [Cleveland-Sacramento, 6/30/2011]

2014 second round draft pick from Memphis
    Memphis' 2014 2nd round pick to Cleveland [Cleveland-Memphis, 7/25/2012]

2014 second round draft pick from Orlando
    Orlando's 2014 2nd round pick to Cleveland [Cleveland-Orlando, 6/23/2011]

2015 first round draft pick from Memphis
    Memphis' 1st round pick to Cleveland protected for selections 1-5 and 15-30 in 2015, 1-5 and 15-30 in 2016, 1-5 in 2017 or 1-5 in 2018 or unprotected in 2019 [Cleveland-Memphis, 1/22/2013]

2015 first round draft pick from Miami
    Miami's 1st round pick to Cleveland protected for selections 1-10 in 2015 or 1-10 in 2016 or unprotected in 2017 [Cleveland-Miami, 7/9/2010]

2015 second round draft pick from Portland
    Portland's 2015 2nd round pick to Cleveland [Cleveland-Portland, 6/27/2013]

2016 second round draft pick from Portland
    Portland's 2016 2nd round pick to Cleveland [Cleveland-Portland, 6/27/2013]

I'm off now. No point in wasting time seeing that this trade won't happen until tomorrow anyway. After all the Millsap and Rondo and Jeff Green and Hawes/Evan Turner BS rumors, we're gonna end up with a player not half as good as any of them or one draft pick that won't turn us into contenders yet I'm sure people on here will think otherwise.

It's too bad it didn't work with Asik. If he accepted his role and this team got healthy, with TJones getting more consistent, this team maybe could have turned into something really good by the end of the season.

Hopefully there is a second round pick in there as well. I think a 1st and a couple of second rounders would be a good haul.

It's a stretch, but could a looming Asik/Ilyasova trade be what's forcing thier hand?

Thanks for posting. Just one thought:

With any of these articles, it is important to keep in mind who the "sources" of the reporter might be and why they might be motivated to talk to the reporter.

To the extent that a source is with a team involved in a deal, it means they probably have some knowledge but it also means that they are motivated to at least shade his comment in a way that somehow benefits his team the most, or is consistent with his team's negotiating posture.

What we have is not surveillance footage of the event, but rather stories told by various witnesses who may not be reliable or honest, a Rashomon situation.

We really don't know what will go down until something does go down.

I don't know if Boston would yield Green. The Cavs would certainly take him. But who would we take from Cleveland along with that/those draft pick/s?

Cleveland has no cap space to just absorb him. They can yield Sideshow Bob or Bynum, each of them a trip to the bowling alley away from being injured (and the latter player waive-able, but then he'd just get picked up by a WC team like OKC).

That wouldn't get us Rondo. You have to understand how many other teams would be able to put together a package way better than that. Morey isn't the only gm looking to get a star.

    K. Now I'm out.

East coast bias. Don't fret. Houston gives up the best player in the deal and gets the worst player in the deal in return? No way Morey lets that happen.
