Well, Belinelli does bear some resemblance to Sylvester Stallone. Who played a character named Hawk, in the movie, Over The Top.

Belinelli does have the ability to bomb away :p

Good point. I was just saying that because even though his tweet didn't make sense to me, several people were replying with things like "Millsap and Korver" rather definitively. So I was assuming they had been able to decipher that tweet, and I was hoping they would explain it to me cuz I dum.

I doubt it. Would be sweet, but unless Morey has slipped the Minny front office people some strong hallucinogens, it ain't happening.

Legit or not, he provides some entertainment.

Break down how that means we're getting LBJ, and I'll rep the **** out of you.

I'm probably gonna get flamed for this but Morey should get Pau Gasol. Lakers don't want him. Asik for Gasol straight up.

Gasol can still play, he's just not being put in a position to be succesful.

Hawes would be great but if you could snag a wing like Deng as well it would be perfect.

    C'mon Morey....

I was wondering when the other GM's would start leaking negative stuff to try and drive the price down. Good job Morey. Keep at it!!

Yeah sounds like other journalists have sources from other teams who are just shaken to their bones every time they put in a phone call to Daryl. Full of posturing, but still in the end we will win.

That's not necessarily true at all.

Note that it said open to "packaging" Lin with Asik. This is not news. The Rockets only have 2 contracts of any size in terms of cap space... Lin and Asik.

It was obvious from the math that the only way Morey can take back total contracts in the $13M+ range back is to package both Asik AND Lin otherwise he would have to gut the roster. Once you get past Dwight, Harden, Asik and Lin, the next biggest salary for cap purposes is TJones at $1.5M.

It's a given that Lin would need to be on the table for a larger trade. This is not the same as "shopping" Lin, this is the reality of the Rockets' salaries.

    http://www.hoopsworld.com/houston-rockets-team-salary

IF you have to move Asik, and you don't want to take larger contract packages off the table then you have to be open to trading Lin. This has nothing to do with Lin's intrinsic value as a standalone trade.

Additionally, the need for players tends to increase as the season progresses as teams get a better feel for what they have and the injuries pile up. Lin still has trade value and will maintain much of that trade value as we approach the February trade deadline.

Once we pass the February trade deadline, the value of Lin as a tradable contract drops sharply as you can no longer amortize the contract over 1.5 seasons. Instead of paying out the equivalent of $10M/year, you're now looking at 1 year at $15M in pure salary terms. This is where you get an actual drop off in contract value.

Assuming that Lin holds no trade value makes about as much sense as people who thought that Asik was going to be untradable -- a false assumption based upon the idea that a GM's view of a player's value would be heavily skewed by 2 days of being disgruntled.

GM's accept that players are human beings. The question for them is not whether Asik missed two days, but whether they believe it will impede their ability to integrate him into the team in the role that they need.

Boston gets Asik, Houston gets Hawes and a first (from the Celtics), but what does Philly get?

Asik is is owed $5mil for this season and $15mil next year. This makes his 2 year average salary at $10mil/year. If you want to say that because roughly 30% of the season has gone past, his average salary becomes $10.9mil/year. But even that number, $10.9mil/yr is overstating his salary a bit for the following reasons.

    1. The Rockets can add $1.3mil in cash in any trade.
    2. The payment plan for Asik is deferred. Since next year's $15mil salary only affects owners and not the cap, anyone who understand economics know that money is worth more now than in the future. So Asik's entire salary is depressed because the owner only has to pay him $3.5mil for the rest of this season. Which is super cheap.
    3. His cap space is only $8.3mil/yr, which affect teams trying to stay under the luxury tax, like Boston.
    4. The Rockets can take on additional salary. Up to possibility $4mil extra of cap filler to help alleviate any monetary issues.

The downside of any team that trades for Asik is that he becomes hard to trade next offseason season due to the ballon payment. However, he becomes instantly tradeable again by next year's trade deadline, after paying off majority of his balloon payment first. So it's really a minor inconvenience.
