hahaha... never let facts get in Tinman's way. It would be hilarious if we see Tinman do something similar using Lin
The main reason for the change in immigration policy was the fact that post-WWII, the previous economic powers like Germany and Great Britain were bombed into the ground and America became a global power. We proceeded to place bases in Japan, Philippines and all over Asia. Tens of thousands of dudes proceeded to marry and bring over Asian brides and it became an issue of white Americans trying to bring over relatives, instead of just yellow people trying to get in. When it became a question of denying basic rights to white people (to bring over new Asian relatives) the policy had to change. Keep in mind that Chinese have been here since the mid 1800s and outnumbered Latinos and blacks in California before the 1900s. There were something like 400,000 Chinese in the US starting in the 1840s... compared to probably less than 10,000 Jews at the time and prior to widescale Southern European (Italian etc) immigration. Anti-Chinese Immigration Acts from the 1870-1960s were specifically enacted to prevent Asian male workers from bringing over families and try to choke out workers every generation so they couldn't put down roots and infect the wider population with the Yellow Menace. Those hundreds of thousands of Chinese Americans who helped settle the West actually were numbered down to around 30,00 by the 1920s so in fact it worked. Literal decimation. So yeah, almost all the non-Chinese Asians here today can trace their roots in the US to the 1960s. If you guys ever go you'll see that in most of Asia, "Asian American" isn't even really a thing. They'll see Chinese Americans as Chinese or ironically as just Americans. "Asian American" is a type of catch-all "other" demographic we use in the US because we can't be bothered. That's why Indians are "Asian American" when in fact Indians are caucasian. The conventions are different. In England "Asian" means Indian not Chinese. As for the other part, yes a lot of doctors and engineers came over. When Kennedy declared his initiatives for the Moon, that included large goals of expanding the technical base of America. Not only Asians but any of you guys who are aerospace engineers probably had your departments created or greatly established during this period. We brought over Taiwanese, Koreans mainly but also Japanese, SE Asians, Indians etc. As for the stereotypes those predate any immigration reforms. IQ tests all show Asian IQ to be 10 points higher than whites, who are higher than blacks. So those stereotypes go back probably to the Portuguese and people who first interacted with Asians like 600 years ago
This one is a riot! I think I have watched every Rockets game, but I missed this one, or I just don't remember. Did he ever get fined for this?
I usually don't like Clyde as the announcer, but this one make me like him just a little bit better. He's too boring, sounds like an uninterested grandfather. But this clip shows he's more into the game. LOL.
90% of Rockets fans would agree about Clyde. It's not that he is not attached to the game, it is that he is just so monotone and has a general incompetence.
We have always owned the Chinese Market. You know why? Cause YAO MING WAS THE FIRST CHINESE ROCKETS PLAYER
These guys were Asians before Lin. They got Chinese endorsements before Lin. Jackie Chan fans don't hate Chris Tucker or are jealous of Chris Tucker either
Im stunned by the lack of 2012 and 2013ers in this thread. I think tinman may have accidentally made an amazing discovery- you want a decent thread in the GARM? Put Yao Ming in the title.
I remember Yao got bashed real hard on here when he had a bad game. Now people are actually missing him. Lol.
Wow, i just noticed I've been lurking and posting every now and then here for over 10 years. Thanks Clutch for giving us a place to do that...
YOF, gtfo. You're ruining the boards. Why does this always have to be about Yao!!! I wish all these 2002ers thru 2010ers would leave this board, it would be so much more peaceful. Tmac was the superstar, that's why Yao needed to defer to tmac. Tmac was a true superstar. Etc etc etc
What if Yao is still playing here with Lin as our starting point. This board would be a mess. Yao fans vs Lin fans. Yao fans would want Lin to stay in the corner and wait for the kickout. Lin fans would want Yao to set high picks everytime Lin has the ball. I wonder if race card can still be used in these threads. To be honest, I think Lin would thrive with Yao. I mean, Yao would get doubled before he gets the ball. That man is ALWAYS doubled tripled. Remember when we hoped for a slasher. Harden and Lin would do some serious damage.
1) I think you yourself confuse "anti-Asian" and "anti-Asian-American" in your statement. 2) You should teach all the LOF's to quit equating Lin with the continent of Asia.
