When Coach of the Year, Don Chaney got canned by Steve Patterson, he replaced him with a person with great heart, his name was Rudy T.

I have faith the architect of Clutch City will find a successor that will lead us to glory.

someone with a heart of a champion

Do not want Franklin! Even SEC homers think he's completely over rated.

Really? Why do they think that. I do not know a lot about him, but I've actually been thinking positively about him as a possibility. I really respect what he has done at Vandy and like how he handles himself in interviews. Also, he is fairly young, so he could really build a legacy at UT, which is something I would love to see.

Briles + a legit defensive coordinator would be the ultimate win

now that would be a sight to see

This would scare this living **** out of every school in the Big 12. His Texas HS connections, his offense, Texas' money, just boom. I'm still on the Charlie Strong bandwagon though. Would love that hire.

I honestly do not know much about the guy, I just asked about him on an SEC board and the overwhelming responses were, "Seriously? This is who Texas would be looking at?" Just all talk of him and his program being over rated just because they beat some underwhelming teams in the SEC this year.

He's had two good years. That's it. And he had Bridgewater those years. Did he get lucky pulling Teddy to Louisville, or is it coaching?

I'm not as high on Strong

Yeah, I mean, I guess that is true. He has made Vandy a better program than Tennessee, but that sure does not say much. He beat some good programs who were down or injured.

But still, the guy has been at Vandy three years. The team has gone from a decade of wretchedness before him to being sub par in his first year, to being mediocre in his 2nd year to being a little better than mediocre this year while beating a Georgia team that really should have beaten Aubern.

    And....he did this at Vandy.

Besides Shaw at Stanford, Franklin is really the guy I would most like to see get the job.

This would be my top choice out of the most realistic possibilities.

I think the big question there is that turning bad to mediocre is very different than being able to beat the best. There are still a lot of questionmarks as to whether he could win at the highest levels - does his system translate to A-level talent? Can he win "big games"? Can he win over Texas HS schools and recruit the top-tier players? etc. Not saying he can't - but it's sort of a different job description to make a bad school decent vs taking a top program to a national title.

Briles is not the CEO type that UT wants/needs. They seem to require a face for the program. Someone who likes the spotlight and rubbing elbows. Someone who can work the media and the boosters. That is not Briles at all. The man can coach offense like hellfire, but he and UT would not be a good fit for each other. I don't see it happening.

Personally not sure why Gary Patterson isn't on the radar. If TCU was just coming off their Rose Bowl win, would UT's tune towards him be different?

Just like how you were saying he wouldn't do anything at Baylor? If he wins no one will care.

Uhh, got a link on that?

I'm not saying this isn't true, but I'm telling you we won't get a chance to find out.

His biggest problem at Houston was making nice with the media and fundraisers, etc. He and the AD frequently butted heads on such things.

Guys like Briles don't ever seem to hire "legit" defensive coordinators.

That said, he would kickstart things quickly in the right direction and move UT to the head of the Big 12 class in no time.

If Briles is hired, I'd hope he hangs on too Robinson as D Coordinator.
