Hawes is averaging 9 rebounds and 1.6 blocks a game. Asik never averaged that many blocks.

Asik is worth 15mil. Look at Tyson Chandler getting paid $14mil and Asik has the same stats. Asik doesn't get hurt like Chandler either. Also, the 8mil cap is all that really matters.

jsut to be clear we are talking about lin right, the guy averaging under 5 assists a game this year and has a career high of 6.2 assists a game? just to put that in context, last year lin avg 6.2 assists a game and he is considered a playmaker... harden avg 5.8 assists a game and he considered a ball hog? is the diff betweem ball hog and playmaker really 0.4 assists?

Hawes is fine, but i can't see Rockets only getting him for Asik. They will get another player or pick out of this deal.

We have Harden at the 2. Asik impact couldn't get us past the thunder without Westbrook... granted the games were close. Now Serge Ibaka that right there is a huge impact one on one. Asik impacts a team that is playing more of a zone type team defense. Asik is good in the paint covering a area but covering his man in one on one spots... he alright. So overall he is not elite defensively in that light. JVG and Morey are smart in saying what they say in bias ways and in ways that support the rockets in many ways.

The Rockets were a top 10 defense Team with him Last Year Even though he was surrounded with minus defenders and had no help from other bigs.
We Went from best rebounding Team to one of the worst Last Season
He had the 5th best RAPM in the leauge Last Year on defense(+\-)

Problem is he is just Not a sexy name, but he is still up there with the Elite Defensive Centers in the NBA

You compare 17 FGA with 7 FGA.

Asik is a very good 1 on 1 defender. Not many big men can move like him in space. The first time the Rockets played the Blazers, he shut down LMA. People tend to only look at blocked shots when it comes to a good defender.

There's a reason one gets more attempts than the other.

If he was truly elite he would have been able to play with Dwight in the starting lineup and be an elite defender but since he is not a elite defender and just a good one he needs his space on the floor because he is only a great defender within covering certain areas on the court. Asik is too slow to straight up defend with another big next to him to me that is not elite that's just good.

Yes. They are all clearly better options.

Doubt the Bobcats are willing to deal MKG and a 1st. Rich Cho doesn't seem the type to deal picks.

Once again, you're relying too much on what you see. Asik as the second best player on the Rockets last year, led us to the playoffs. Cousins as the best or 2nd best player? 28-54. It could be that Cousins is just purely a victim of being in Sacramento. Or...it could be that his impact on winning isn't very high.

Of course Asik doesn't score. His only real offensive skill is picks. He's not even a good dunker. But his picks and willingness to move the ball sets up other players well.

Not sure why his defense is even in question. As I said earlier, Morey himself said we were a top 10 defense with him on the floor last year, and bottom 5 when he sat. That should tell you 2 things. First, that the players around him are terrible defenders, which we already knew. Second, that he is AN ELITE DEFENDER to put a group with 4 scrub defenders in the top 10.

    Not good. Not great. Elite.

Again with Lopez.....how much has his "elite post offense" contributed to winning? It hasn't.......ever.

Points aren't the goal. Rebounds aren't the goal. Assists aren't the goal. Winning is the goal.

I already said earlier that I probably would trade Cousins for Asik straight up (leaving Dwight out of the equation). I'd do it not necessarily because he's the better player (ie. leads us to more wins), but because he has higher value around the league.

Morey got the Rockets where they are by looking for things that others don't see. Perhaps we as fans should try the same.

In the end, all I'm saying is Asik is NOT a top 30 player, but he is the next best thing.
