Finally a trade that pays market value for a true star. On paper Cousins Gay and Rondo fit well together on the court. In reality not so much.
Depends on how you define "true star" when you give that label to Rondo. I don't think Rondo is an elite player who you build a team around. Anyway, his value has dropped in recent time due to his injury problems and his alleged attitude problems with teammates.
Is it coincidence that the Kings (7-15), Pelicans (11-11 & 27-55 last season), and the Nets (8-15) are all under new ownership and suck enough to be bottom feeders? Why is this? I understand new owners want to win right away and tell fans they want to compete, and if you look at their trades they are spending money and trying. It just seems like no matter who they trade for or what they do, they suck. Sure they haven't acquired any AAA stars, but they have been making moves that should put most teams in the playoffs. I knew the Nets would not be contenders or even close, but I expected them easily be a playoff team in the East. Jrue Holiday Anthony Davis Eric Gordon Tyreke Evans Ryan Anderson Aminu Gay Landry McLemore Williams D-Will Garnett Pierce Johnson Kirilenko Terry Plumlee Anderson Teletovic All of these acquistions were made withing the last 1-2 seasons. Any set of them should make you a playoff team (so you would think).
That would be a great trade for both teams. Celtics get a good value for a top 3 PG (arguably #1 when healthy, in my opinion) while getting to rebuild, and the Kings would then be a few pieces away from becoming true contenders. Not bad...
The West is STACKED. You really need a complete team to compete in the West to make the playoffs. The East is not. Brooklyn will make the playoffs this year. They're like a game or two out of the playoff standing.
The sticking point to this deal will be the 2014 first round pick. The kings would be foolish to give that up.
Also, surrounding boogie with rondo and gay is a genius move for boogie's career development. if this deal goes down, the kings will be VERY good.
The kings seem to always want to give up on their rookies really fast. Or they just suck at evaluating talent.
