I didn't think it was actually MS securing parts better, rather the xb1 uses near cutting edge parts while the ps4 uses cutting edge parts. The tech for the xb1 was a lot more available than the tech for the ps4. I could be wrong here... Honestly, I don't think there will be a clear winner for quite some time, all we know is that the Wii u lost. Nintendo had an entire year to beat these guys and fell flat on their faces. I don't know how they recover from this.
This might be where he got it from, but I could be wrong... http://www.wpcentral.com/microsoft-sells-2-million-xbox-ones-announces-new-support-patch
Xbox and Sony both announced the 2 million threshold at nearly identical times in their release cycles, even though Xbox One was in far fewer markets. Sony is in 48 markets while the Xbox One is only in 13. Either way, both will announce 3 million units sold total through December. With that said, Microsoft has nearly a full extra title lead in game attachment rates, 2.1 to about 2.9. Most people don't realize, that the market delay for Xbox One is mainly due to voice recognition restrictions for the new Kinect, which any Xbox One owner will tell you - is amazing, even in it's current state. Microsoft doesn't want to release an unfinished product in regions where they don't have voice support in place, as well as licensing for full digital distribution.
I think you mentioned this in another thread too, but I would say you're probably wrong. The XBO components appear to be more expensive (and thus, "more cutting edge," though final results might not indicate that). It is more complicated, that's for sure. It is probably not a huge difference either way though. Not like DVD drive vs Blu-ray drive in 2006. Yeah, I was thinking that might have been it, but the numbers were still a bit off, plus it being per day vs per week. 100K-125K a week isn't very much. Another inquiry: where are you getting the attach rate numbers? I didn't follow NPD super closely beyond the big numbers, but I must have missed that. The only source I can find on this states that the XBO's attach rate was around 2.1 (which conflicts with your numbers): http://www.gamespot.com/articles/np...and-call-of-duty-leads-software/1100-6416696/ PS4 numbers weren't given for comparison. The only comment was that PS4 sold more software than "the other console," and that the attach rate was better than what PS2 and PS3 had.
I'll try and dig up the article I'm basing this off of, like I said it could have been me just jumbling information up in my head between everything I've read. Regardless, I think the XB1 is freaking amazing. In a completely unrelated post, I ran into a PS4 fanboy at BBY and hilarity ensued. I was looking into receivers (I know, I know, newegg is better but I wanted it now). The guy was asking me what I was doing and I told him I wanted to hook all my other devices (my cable box, my WiDI receiver, my xbox 360 for NBA Gametime, and my Wii U) to the receiver and then relay that connection to the XB1. At first he was pleasant, he warned me I will get dramatic signal loss and it won't be true 1080 if I do it. I then explained to him that outside the Wii U the other devices don't run 1080 or I just don't care about their signal quality to begin with. He then started to tell me that the XB1 is **** in terms of it's TV input and degrades the signal quality of any device hooked into it. He then started to explain to me how the hardware of the XB1 was nothing more than a 360 on steroids and that the PS4 was something I should look into. I told him that I'm not a hardcore gamer, I have a surface 2, a windows phone, and I feel like the seamless multimedia fits better into my lifestyle. It then turned into a back in forth and I eventually just said I was going to purchase said receiver and give everything a try and I just walked away from the conversation. Well, there is no signal loss at all. It's really funny how wrong this guy was. There is a tiny bit of input lag, so the Wii U has to be plugged into the TV directly, but aside from that it works like a charm. I wouldn't say I'm a MS fanboy, but Jesus this issue of MS vs. Sony seems to be more dividing than even MS vs. Apple or Apple vs. Android. People get really heated about this and I don't particularly understand why.
I guess he was talking about how the XBO degrades picture quality from the source? It doesn't down-res or anything, but I think that was/is an actual issue (multiple reports online, and I think some reviewers like the Verge noted it). Crushed blacks and other things IIRC. Not sure it is really that big of a deal though IMO. Seems fairly minor, especially since it will be fixed at some point. It might have been fixed already. If you didn't notice any issues, perhaps it was fixed.
They are exactly what Sony/MS want. It's basically free advertising for them, since I'm pretty sure none of these suckers are being paid by either company. When I'm at CES and talk to the Sony person, I know Sony is paying them and they are more knowledgeable about their product, and probably took a shower and brushed their teeth.
Hell, Pizza If you have a windows phone and a few surfaces I feel for ya. My windows phone sucks and every person I work with that uses a surface especially for work tells me they suck too. But kudos, keep ****ing that chicken. Btw, if you aren't "hardcore" why even buy a receiver? Just go to Radio Shaq and buy one of those signal selector things and call it a day.
I just got a Surface Pro 2 about a month ago, and I'd have to disagree (if that's what you're referring to). It works pretty well for just about anything that a laptop does. Really, the only thing it isn't meant for is hardcore video editing and gaming. It's really no different than an Ultrabook. The price is really based on portability rather than specs. Now the Surface 2, I think that's a different story altogether because of the app ecosystem in the Windows App Store. The iPad or even an Android tablet would probably go further in terms of work -- right now the only advantage the Surface has is full Office support, but it looks like that might be coming to other operating systems in the near future.
Went to a place where the owner went all out hardcore. 65 inch plasma (plasma is still better for picture quality, deep blacks, no motion issues (no need for 120hz etc), no viewing angle problems) Denon Receiver B@W Speakers, sub All the game systems (this was before ps4/xbox1 came out), ps3, wii u, xbox360
I'm talking about the tablets and mobile phones. The phones is fast but my God is it a mess in terms of problems and lack of apps. I had better apps on my Nokia n900 3 years ago.
More power to you if you hate it. Personally, for what I need it works out just fine. I like my Windows Phone for the camera and I like my surface because it runs flash and it has full office. An iPad falls short in those categories and the iPhone/android pool of phones falls short of the 41 MP of the nokia. I don't consider myself a fanboy because I don't buy the product just because MS puts there stamp on it, I buy it because I like it and it fits my lifestyle.
To add to that: The reason I wanted a receiver instead of a switch is because I also would like to upgrade to an actual sound system at some point. With that said, maybe a switch isn't a bad idea, I didn't really fully consider it. Thanks!
Weird, I can't think of a single problem with my Windows Phone off the top of my head, and it has an app for everything I want to do. Perhaps you got a lemon if you're really experiencing a mess of problems. I have a Lumia 920, and before that had a 900.
I don't think those will happen for a while. Probably not till 4K TV's start to become more of a standard.
It is fairly unlikely either will. Both are possible (so it will always be a "maybe"), but these GPUs aren't really cut out for 4K gaming (especially at solid frame rates). It is tough enough to get to 1080p. Keeping in mind than most PS3/360 games don't even support 720p (usually in combination with sub 30fps frame rates), I think we should be happy to have solid 1080p support. Maybe very simple games and/or some sort of 4K>x>1080p resolution will be supported (guess you could always render at higher resolutions for increased IQ at 1080p), but I wouldn't really expect much 4K gaming out of either device. Stick to PC, or start your wait for next-gen. Oh man...next-gen.
