I like the new trailer. Seems more in line with the original trilogy. And Cumberbatch voice as Smaug is full of win.

I just saw the 3-D trailer before Gravity. The 3D for the new Hobbit movie looks absolutely dreadful. I would avoid the 3D like the plague.

The 3D in Gravity was freaking amazing looking, though. Best looking 3D I have ever seen.

They really should have split the book into two 2hr movies. The last one left a bad taste so I'll catch this on netflix.

So has any one seen it?

Thought it was Okay, but not as good as the LOTR.

I guess it has to do with my age as well. When LOTR came out I was 11 years old and it was the greatest movies ever. Now my tastes have changed I suppose.
    Still a great entertainement.

I watched it last week, I was much happier with this one than the first. I think they did a great job with the dragon. It was a long movie, but at no point did i start looking at my watch wondering how far in I was.

    I liked it but...

I don't understand why they couldn't just ride those massive eagles/hawks directly to the Lonely Mountain. Couldn't they have at least dropped them off past Mirkwood and saved themselves the trouble of being attacked by both spiders and elves? In LOTR, obviously those eagles/hawks couldn't carry Frodo and the Ring directly to Mt Doom because of (1) Nazgul and their flying steeds, (2) Sauron's massive eye watching everything within Mordor, (3) leagues of countless orcs and other foul creatures standing guard. I haven't read the book though so I might be missing something.

I liked it. A little long winded in parts, but entertaining. 3d was ok, but nothing so amazing that would make me want to see it again in 3D. I liked the first one, and this one was better, though fellowship of the ring is still my favorite of all the lord of the rings based movies.

Saw it in 3D HFR Imax at Amc 30 by westheimer, and I'm convinced there was a problem with the display, it was horrible. Any time there was motion it was just a blurred mess.

I'm inclined to believe the curved screen might have been throwing off the 3d alignment, cause it was bad.

The movie though I liked. I enjoyed it very much, the barrel scene was great.

I actually saw it at Palladium in 3D HFR and thought it was the best movie I have ever seen visually in theaters, at times it felt like you were in the movie.

The way they filmed this one seemed different, made it seem like I was playing an RPG.

Once Smaug came in, the movie was outstanding. The exchange with Bilbo and the following fight was amazing. Thorin's plan was awesome.

Before that I found myself rolling my eyes at all the ring stuff, but the legolas /tauriel parts didn't feel shoehorned in. The barrel scene and the fat dwarf going nuts was great too.

there were issues i felt with the movie - the barrell scene and some other places the CG was considerably poorer than in other shots.

Smaug was done beautifully though - Cumberbatch was a great choice for his voice.

I wish more movies are shown in HFR as I think it made the experience a lot better.

I'll see the last film of course but I do felt like the Hobbit could have just been split across two movies. There were scenes added in to help stretch the story out and while its great that parts are being brought in from the other books to help out - didn't feel like it was necessary.

The barrel scene made me lol at times, made me rage at others (it is annoying how "perfect" legolas is), and made me wtf too (like how the first person shots were done using a go-pro camera).

This just confirms my hunch, it had to be be the setup they had in Imax, because I saw the 3d trailers and they looked good, then you could see the lenses flip into place before the actual movie started and that's when my brother and I instantly noticed the problem.
