Lol who would have thought Asik would be a bigger Diva than Dwight But I still think his Agent told him to Act like that
If Asik is not traded this won't reflect well on Daryl Morey. He's been given alot of praise for bringing in Howard. But not being able to trade an asset you value highly on says: A. That you value your own players way too high and the league has caught on to this, possibly creating a reputation among other GM's that your asking price for trades is ridiculous or B. You got over confident when you issued that fake deadline (Dec 19th) and now have to save face and make amends with a disgruntled player Either way not getting Asik out of here is the worst possible scenario for Daryl Morey. If Asik is really as good as we make him, there should be no problem trading him. I think Morey asking for 2 picks for a player like Asik might come back to haunt him. Hopefully not though
I rather no trade than a trade for Lee/Bass with their unmovable contracts. No trade now means we end up trading for players later that we cant move by the trade deadline. Forcing a trade with Boston means we might get stuck with players we can't trade by next year's trade deadline (or later)
Well I was right about Morey threatening to back out at the last minute, but was wrong about him backing out entirely, and mostly that had to do with how bad the poo-poo platter deal would actually ended up being. I do think though as mentioned before, that its going to be a little weird and could harbor some awkward vibes in the locker room. I do think that the Rockets players and coaches probably wanted Asik gone just so they can get rid of the negativity and to move forward. So its going to be interesting to see if it ends up being like Gasol in LA the past couple of years with consistent drama, or if they gel from this situation and it becomes like Horry and Bullard when they were almost traded for Sean Elliott. I personally hope they just put this past them, and decide that this is the team they are rolling with until the summer of 2015. If a deal comes along that is too good to pass up, or a good player shakes loose later on, you take a look, but its probably time to let this team be, and focus on winning games. Omer can just suck it. He's got a power agent now that knows what he's doing. If he wants out that bad, they can either try and find a way to disolve his contract, they can try and broker a more appealing deal for Morey to look at later on that meets the needs of the Rockets, or he can simply play, and play for the Summer of 2015 where he would be best served to play well enough to get paid again by another team.
Sigh, Morey tried to trade him hard, even pulled smoke screens with a BS deadline, but all he got was dumps. So I guess we did "keep" him.
