Yes, I think the average U.S. citizen is unaware of the U.S. drone strikes that have killed millions of innocent people.

millions of innocent people? smh. We haven't killed a million people with drone strikes even less a million innocent people. I would guess the number of people killed by American drone strikes is south of 10,000.

Seems like you might be 'unaware' of these drone strikes.

I blame video games and school shootings for this nonsense.

The absurd embellishment was totally unnecessary and, unfortunately, ruins a very valid point.

People are aware, but it just blends into the background

A great deal of folks honestly didn't give a rats a** about Al Qaeda or Bin Laden before 9/11

Its the same reason why more people were aware of Fukushima/ Haiyan when the 2013 North India floods went relatively ignored.

Wait sorry, I got confused for a sec. The 'millions' refers to total casualties in Iraq - not all were from drone strikes, obviously.

    Anyways, thoughts on the article?

It's not that they're not aware, it's more so that they prefer to have the benefits of killing people abroad without trial rather than act in a lawful way. Moreover, most politically active Americans support red or blue, and in obedience to their party they accept this behavior since both parties are happy to conduct extra judicial killings. Somehow they believe that it makes them safer and that it makes them money, although in reality it is making them less safe, the money goes to already-rich people, and they actually lose money by having to beef up their defenses. I suspect this myth has a lot to do with the handful of corporations which dominate the majority of media through which Americans are informed about politics. Those corporations, obviously, are profiting hugely from robbing Americans of information.

The only real positive here is that this system is rigged to implode in the distant future since maximizing short-term gain every 4 years is an unsustainable task, and as most Americans get poorer they will have less and less to lose by standing up to their government's theft of their sustainability and well-being.

Drone strikes are no more or less lawful than any other tool of war.

    Killing someone with a knife
    Shooting them with a gun
Taking them out with a sniper rifle
    Dropping a bomb on them
    Firing a cruise missile
    Launching a drone

There's nothing more or less legal about any of the above - it's just a natural evolution to conduct warfare while reducing risk to your own people. It's a trend that will continue over time because it's just an obvious thing to do. It's the same reasons armies no longer line up facing each other and charge at each other for a slaughter.

The people that have concerns with drones will generally have them with all of the above - drones themselves have nothing to do with legality.

You're still speaking hyperbolically, which doesn't help your argument.

You're under the impression that we are seeking justice. That isn't the case. These are acts of war.

I will agree that this is a gray area. We can't selectively pick people as enemies and call them terrorists when they strike back.

al-Jazeera American: "Iraq War Claimed Half a Million Lives, Study Finds"

I'm as anti-Iraq war as you can get. I'm only on your case because 1. You spoke hyperbolically to make a point and 2. Didn't back up what you said with facts. Even if you're preaching to the choir, you need to stand on solid ground.

Mathloom thinks he knows everything about a culture/country he is not a part of and sees it through a highly negative lens.

He's more American than we give him credit for!
