Its a bad choice if both upgrades are only marginal, and have a shelf life of less than 3 years. They need to make an attempt to fix rings for the long-term... much like was attempted in 2006... not thinking a "quick fix" may get this team back to contention. And sometimes, the "long-term" plan ends up fixing things quickly anyways.
You can't turn around and try and out run the defender. You gotta step up and throw the ball. You're gonna get hit. - Andre Ware
The days of holding a clipboard for two years are gone. Two months ago I said that Keenum has given us no reason to believe he can't be an NFL starting QB. Two months later, I reverse that. He's given us no reason to believe he can be a starting NFL QB.
This is his 8th consecutive start. Most failed NFL QB's (rookie, veteran, etc.) don't get even that many opportunities.... unless they're high round draft picks with money invested in them that the team has no choice but to play him.
Could it really get any worse than where they are now? Not picking a player that may measure out well in the combine simply because of his last name is a pretty idiotic decision.
A lot of people seem to subscribe to the "ready out of the box" notion regarding QBs. Unless you're talking about a transcendent type like Peyton (son of a successful QB)....no one is going to flourish without being coached up and put in a position to succeed. Absolutely, some guys are DOA - but that generally speaks to work ethic and character (Jamarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf). I think scores of you are underplaying just how easy it is take someone with the right set of tools....and ruin them. Maybe if he wasn't given the worst O-Line imaginable and setting sack records or if he had a QB coach worth a damn before it was too late, Carr could have been okay-decent. Keenum's got really good stuff - it stinks he didn't get an offseason prepping him to be a starter. This is a horrific mess to ask anyone to be successful, and his chances of developing into an established starter are clearly sinking like a stone. Only good thing about this game is seeing the already thin chances of Wade "I'm a Winner*" Phillips making a case for the head job are getting riddled by a machine gun. * don't look at my postseason record, that doesn't count. Look away! Look away!
The instant we let go of Case, New England will pick him up and he will be the successor of Brady. Case will go into the HOF some day.
Man, did anybody think that after firing hc/ playcaller case was gonna thrive? Give the kid a break , all the piling on is rediculous.
