You were 11 for the championship big shot. You have no idea. And again, buying into the same dumb "sources" after you were duped about Saban being a "lock." Where is bear_bryant when you need him?
Yeah and I was a bandwagoner. I'm sorry I can't be a fan of a team just because I didn't go there / live in the same locale? As far as rumors go, I'm willing to buy in to them because why the **** not? Its fun. Everyone on mother****ing CLUTCHFANS bought into Dwight rumors and it turned out to be true. You're not as omniscient as you think you are. Dismissing me and my perspective on Mack when people/alums that actually went through the whole Mack Brown era share the same views on Mack? I lived through Tmac and as grateful as I was I wish the ****er just suffered a career ending injury or retired at the tail end of his tenure in Houston after all that bull****. A different perspective would not have changed what I thought about Mack because it sure didn't change my opinion on Tracy, or JVG, or Adelman, or Kubes, or McHale probably in several years.
You can almost bet he didnt resign by choice, he was told he will not be coming back and to save face by stepping down.
I know you're just being a troll, but when Mack Brown was hired, he had just put together back to back top 10 finishes at UNC. Probably somewhere on the level of Stanford and David Shaw. (David Shaw isn't coming here, but it gives you an idea of what we recruited then.)
I don't think Saban's completely out of the equation. His new contract, which there are conflicting reports whether he's actually signed it or not, has no buyout clause meaning, tomorrow if Texas wants him to become their new HC, and he accepts, he can walk without Texas having to pay Alabama a dime. And, while I know Alabama has a TON of money, they don't have Texas money. No one does.
Saban's comments rule him out. He had plenty of opportunity in the last couple of weeks to make them, so the timing was very curious. I don't doubt it was discussed and he considered it, but it was never a sure thing. On to the next one.
C'mon dude. Just give it up. It was never gonna happen, it's why I didn't let myself get caught up. Shaw isn't leaving Stanford either. I still think charlie strong would be an outstanding hire. Won't happen though with our back ass ward regents, staff, etc.
Powers and Mack don't want Saban and that's why he's not here. I really didn't care for Saban coming anyways. He's dirty and I don't think he would fit in dealing with the big xii as said before Patterson needs to get the bmd's in check. These guys have too much access and are becoming an embarrassment. Hopefully he will Would like to see shaw or Franklin. I think the nfl guys mentioned are pipe dreams but that would be great. Either way, whoever it is has to not only deal with being a college coach but also the LHN and the pain in the ass bmd's
Desmond Howard mentioned "Jimbo Fisher" Kirk Herbstreat mentioned "James Franklin" Bret McMurphy essentially said that UT would likely chase coaches regardless of the fact that they might have just signed a new long term contract. He mentioned "Jimbo Fisher and "Gus Malzahn".
I hear Kubiak is up there. UT likes his ability to find quality coordinators and that the Kubiak version of west coast will rule college. This post is completely a joke.
Could you imaging him recruiting. "Well, we'll make darn sure your son is battlefighter before be leaves our school."
Apparently the other guy who could be in play is Les Miles. His daughter is a freshman at UT. He's a bit of a nut job, but he knows how to recruit in Texas and has won it all.
If neither of those guys were in the national title game, I could see it (more Malzahn than Fisher). That said, you can't even talk to them for the next 3 weeks - and if they are willing to talk now, it indicates something very wrong with them since they are at the cusp of the pinnacle of their career and shouldn't be job hunting. If Texas doesn't have a new coach a week from now, it makes it more and more likely than they are waiting for these guys or a pro-coach that's involved in a playoff hunt. Otherwise, I don't see much reason it should take too long.
I think it's amusing that you think it takes 4 years to rebuild a college football program. Have you seen how many coaches have taken programs from nothing to national title quality in 2 or 3 years over the last 10-15 years? Meyer, Tressel, Stoops, Saban, Malzahn, Carroll, etc. And outside of Saban, none of those were proven dream coaches when they got hired. Tressel was a freaking I-AA coach. Carroll was a failed NFL guy. Stoops and Malzahn were coordinators. Meyer had coached at Bowling Green and Utah. We're trained by Mack Brown to think that rebuilding is a long arduous process that takes many years, but that's not reality. Texas is most likely looking for a proven guy, but if even if they get someone less than that top tier, there's no reason they can't be successful overnight.
Certainly - and that's a big hole. But it's amazing what one can do when they are coached up and put in a good system. I'm pretty sure if you brought in, say, Briles, he could go out and find a 2 or 3 star out there somewhere (or a JUCO guy) and turn him into a functional QB in his first year - not great, but better than we've had the last 4 years. Texas Tech even managed to turn a walk-on into a functional player with their system and coaching. No one is officially signed yet, so it's possible to go out and steal a recruit from a mid-tier school if they have the opportunity to be the starting QB at Texas. That's a pretty powerful recruiting opportunity for a new coach.
Chris Mortensen: The Texas Longhorns have an A-list of NFL coaches as candidates they would explore. The timeline may seem awkward but the recruiting period goes dead tonight through January 15th and Texas has a healthy allotment of recruits already committed and money is no problem at Texas. There is no indication however that interest from NFL coaches under the Texas list will be reciprocated yet. Jim Harbaugh turned down a contract extension last season from the 49ers so his name will stay alive. Mike McCarthy has a home on Lake Travis near Austin, Texas but hasn't been in the college game since 1993. The Seahawks have gone from hopeful to confident Pete Carroll is content with NFL life. Chip Kelly, league sources say Kelly is prominent on the new list of Longhorns' AD Steve Patterson, who has heard that Kelly misses some aspects of the college football game. If Kelly is interested, a NCAA expert believes the 18-month show-cause sanction was more like a slap on the wrist and is not a major hurdle. Kelly was unavailable for comment Saturday night but a team spokesman said Kelly laughed it off when he heard his name was mentioned on the Texas list. Mike Silver: Harbaugh has indicated he has no interest. Harbaugh probably not going anywhere.
Exactly. Malzahn took a JUCO guy from this past year who threw as many interceptions as touchdowns, and is going to the title game. That's obviously a lot to ask, but the last two Heisman winners have been redshirt freshmen -- with the right recruiting and development, the QB position can be turned around in just a couple years. The Horns do already have a guy who's considered top 5 QB recruit coming in for next year -- Jerrod Heard. Hard to expect him to compete immediately, but he's not nearly as raw as a guy like Swoopes was, so there's a chance. Ash is supposedly back for spring ball as well, and they may look for a grad transfer.
I don't think Saban will be Texas coach - but to make any argument "based on his comments" when dealing with Saban is pretty laughable Dec 27, 2006 - "I'm not going to be the Alabama coach" Jan 4, 2007 - "Roll Tide!" Bonus bit of awesomeness - IIRC he informed his Dolphins staff that they were all basically fired via either text or voicemail while on the plane to Tuscaloosa.
