This was on purpose. He wanted to stop Saban from succeeding him.

University of Texas Football Head Coach Mack Brown will step down from his position following the Longhorns appearance in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30, he announced Saturday.

    Mack Brown:

"Sally and I were brought to Texas 16 years ago to pull together a football program that was divided. With a lot of passion, hard work and determination from the kids, coaches and staff, we did that. We built a strong football family, reached great heights and accomplished a lot, and for that, I thank everyone. It's been a wonderful ride. Now, the program is again being pulled in different directions, and I think the time is right for a change. I love The University of Texas, all of its supporters, the great fans and everyone that played and coached here. I can't thank DeLoss Dodds enough for bringing our family here, and Bill Powers and the administration for supporting us at a place where I have made lifelong friendships. It is the best coaching job and the premier football program in America. I sincerely want it to get back to the top and that's why I am stepping down after the bowl game. I hope with some new energy, we can get this thing rolling again."

Steve Patterson, Texas Men's Athletics Director:

"We appreciate everything Mack has done for The University of Texas. He's been a tremendous coach, mentor, leader and ambassador for our university and our student-athletes. He is truly a college football legend. I've had a number of talks with him recently, and he has always said he wanted what was best for The University of Texas. I know this decision weighed heavily on him, and today he told us he's ready to move forward."

William Powers Jr., University of Texas at Austin President:

"This is a very difficult day for everyone in The University of Texas family. Mack Brown is one of the best football coaches in the country, a tremendous representative of our University, and, most importantly, a great friend. He has produced championship teams with tremendous student-athletes and has always done so with the utmost class and integrity. Mack is just the best and he will be missed. With that said, I'm excited for the future and the opportunity to work with him in a new capacity for the years to come and am thrilled that he and Sally will remain part of our family. He is an unbelievable resource for us and will always be a valuable member of the Longhorn community."

    Chip was right.

Now it's time to celebrate Mack's career. UT had great success for the vast majority of his career including a bunch of bowl wins and a National Championship.

    Thanks Mack!!

What was he right about exactly? Did Mack quit when he said he would?

If I say Kevin McHale won't be our coach tomorrow. And he quits next year, was I right?

That guy is number one on my list. The only issue is that, I think, Stanford is his alma mater, so Stanford may be his dream job -- the same way Okie State is for Gundy. It might be impossible to pry him out of there. Which, if so, good for him, but yeah, I can't think of anyone I would rather replace Brown, including Saban.

He was right about Mack resigning. You absolutely can not deny that, just like he was right about DeLoss when none else had a clue it was happening.

    Mack can rot.
We need to destroy this guy's legacy for what he did.

repped. Was a freshman for the first rose bowl, soph for the big win. Most amazing experience I've ever had following sports. The ridiculous win numbers that followed in 08-09 weren't bad either.

I think he is also buying into the random Mack destroyed Saban rumors. You think he and the others would have learned their lessons after listening to ****tiy message boards "reporting" that Saban was a lock. Some people never learn.

    Don't care.
    Didn't get Saban.
I wasn't a student but I was following UT during the Vince Young era and that's like saying Mike Brown is a good coach because of LeBron.
I get he turned the program around when he first started, but **** him for destroying what could have been an unstoppable force under Saban.

Think of it in this perspective:
My four years of UT will be filled with four years of rebuilding/mediocrity from the basketball and football programs, assuming we get none of our dream coaches.
    You guys were lucky.
Oh well. I still have the Rockets.

Saban isnt necessarily a guarantee for a title. The dude struggles vs spread offenses (See auburn, A&M, Utah) and playing in a league where the offenses have been generally **** (SEC) vs playing in conference with top offenses (Big12) could have been something that might have given him trouble. Also, Mack brown did need to leave but give the man some respect where its due. He;s always been a class act
