If 15% of zero is zero! then 30% of zero will also be zero. In other words, while I know you are being sarcastic, the point about blood and turnips should be made.

These numbers don't count payroll/SS tax. The poor pay a larger percentage of their income on these taxes because the rich only have to pay the tax on the first 113K of payroll and they don't have to pay it on investment income. That's 13 percent of taxes that rich doesn't have to pay.

Does this chart assume that the same people are in the same bracket year after year?

First they said Pluto wasn't a planet, now democracy is a financial system?

You make a good point, but in truth, it hasn't really looked quite like this in America since shortly after we threw the redcoats out. Kind of depressing, and the fear is the system is now completely rigged to make it worse and worse, until the whole system collapses on itself. "The riches" will have all moved to Geneva or Dubai by that point, I guess.

I'm not defending or attacking the numbers on that chart, but the idea that democracy is somehow intended to distribute wealth evenly is ridiculous. Democracy is not an economic model.

In fairness to you, conservatives don't get testy when they are presented with facts, they just ignore the facts and keep repeating the banal mantra of the week.

Income tax is designed to take more from high wage earners. ...so water is wet. Pat someone on the back for accomplishing what they set out to do.

Sales tax is designed to be flat. I have not seen any "studies" that calculate total contribution or % of sales taxes collected based on income level. Why not? BigT, be a dear and look that one up for us.

    Basically this.

There are far more poor people than rich people. Make no mistake, desperate people will do many unsavory things to feed their family. "Welfare" and handouts should be loved by the rich...... it is just enough to keep the poor from forcefully taking what the rich have.
