Chip needs to be necessarily right about something big sometime soon if he wants people to take him seriously. UT is in the PAC12 with Saban as their new coach now that Mack has resigned.
This is exactly what happened... There was way too muc smoke. Saban was lined up but clearly wasn't going to wait around I Mal wavered. Short of competing for a title next year Mack will hear it from the longhorn faithful.
He can't control whether Mack gets his panties in a wad because the story was out there before he had a chance to tell his players and staff. I don't know how you go from "I'm resigning" to "I'm staying because y'all found out I'm resigning."
Just plain wrong: 7 folks that were wrong on Saban heading to Texas 7. Then he should have said "Mack will probably resign". He reported it as a done deal, which it was was clearly not. Nonsense - you all are just believing what you want to here. That "smoke" was Nick Saban's agent angling for a raise and a bunch of internet wannabe investigators tracking flights and real estate deals that they knew nothing about. These "insider sources" have been wrong, repeatedly, over the years. The Flightaware nonsense started a few years ago and is basically always wrong. But it works because it confirms what people really want to believe - they look at one piece of a story while ignoring all that doesn't fit the suggested narrative.
Texas needs to get their boosters under control. Joe and red are old, crazy and controlling everything. Time for a change. The younger billionaires need to step up and put these guys out to pasture
Wasn't it right for Howard? Or maybe I'm just thinking it was since we landed our guy. Morey landing Harden/Howard for table scraps has me content on trades/folks coming to my team for the next 5 years.
According to "sources". I seriously doubt if Mack had already made the decision to resign, he'd be on a recruiting trip. Either way, citing any "sources" in this clustercuss probably isn't advisable.
Texas got trolled hard -- they were never getting Saban. So to recap so far, both Saban and Briles chose to stay at their schools vs. go to Austin. Next call for the regents: Gary Kubiak?
That wasn't even as big of a deal. The biggest troll job was Mack Brown not resigning. That was 1000x worse than anything involving Saban with Texas. Basically, Texas will go through yet another year of stagnant football instead of having a fresh start with a new coach.
Yup. Texas' arrogance was on full display thinking they could just buy their way to the best coach in America. It's really quite comical all things considered.
I'm not sure what the FlightAware stuff was with Howard, but I don't think the Rockets talking to Howard was a secret - but admittedly, I didn't follow that saga nearly as much. FA was used with Texas a few years ago for coordinator positions and proved to be total nonsense. I think it was actually for Gus Malzahn after Auburn's title, but I'm not sure.
Mack Brown is about to be the most hated coach in UT history. Might have just singlehandedly ruined his legacy by being the coach that actively prevented Texas from getting Saban. Regardless of whether Saban was toying or not for more $$$ from Bama, Mack Brown is still going to get blamed. GOOD. Screw that old prick.
When did Briles have the option to go to Austin? No thanks on Kubiag. Will be curious to see what happens if Oregon boat races us in the bowl game...that one could be ugly.
Agreed, especially with the bolded. I never got the impression that Saban really wanted or intended to come to Texas. It just didn't make sense from Saban's point-of-view...he's already got plenty of money. He and his agent probably decided to have a little fun with all this smoke. Patterson and the other Texas big dogs got played like a fiddle by Saban's agent. Honestly, I think most good coaches with integrity would be very hesitant to come to Texas at a time like this. Sure, UT is filthy rich and can pay someone a hefty salary...but I also think that the athletics program is currently coming across as "toxic" to a lot of people on the outside. There's too much politics, bureaucratic miasma and hands in the cookie jar. Also, Texas needs to do a better job of controlling leaks. Maybe they can call up Beyonce and get some tips from her. Whatever credibility Chip Brown and his "sources" have had in the past...it's gone now. The guy cares about making a name for himself first and foremost...an attention w****.
I don't think this is over yet - I suspect Mack is gone within 4-5 days, though the delay is silly and unnecessary. The banquet apparently was treated like a farewall, and some of Mack's comments after suggested a decision will be made soon. I find it hard to believe any decision would involve him staying.
Give me a break. He has been wrong at every major turn the last few years. His "greatest hits" include... 1. The PAC 16 is going to happen. 2. A&M will not move to the SEC. 3. Texas will land Saban. 4. Mack Brown will step down by Friday (yesterday). The guy has simply lost all credibility. He's a joke.
