She was on UNIVISION DEPORTES for a long time. We Spanish speakers saw enough of her there. She's a'ight. She's not "TONI Collins", though, she's Antonieta Collins, the daughter of Mexican-born correspondent Maria Antonieta Collins, forever reporting for Televisa and Univisión, who moved on to Telemundo. "Toni" changed her name from "Antonieta" to sound more "American." Bull ****. http://www.vivelohoy.com/tag/antonietta-collins
Hold the phones a second... Are you claiming that someone working in television would prostitute out any and all aspects of their being in order to make more money? We're talking about television?
Eh, she more like shortened it. I could see if she changed it to like Beth or something but it's AnTONIeta. Even in Spanish that portion of her name is pronounced, Toni. So meh. It's all the same.
How is a name "their being"? It's LESS Latino or less "Mexican" to be called "Toni" instead of Antonieta. Tell me, B-Bob... why would you change your nickname? Unless you're banned from somewhere... WTF (why the F) would you change your name? WHY? You are who you are. She sold out by shortening that name, if you ask me. None of the U.S. emmeffers would go to Mexican or Spanish-speaking television stations and change their name or shorten their name to sound "Spanish." NONE.
Not the surname, dude. That's not in question here. Even her mom calls her "Antonieta Collins": http://entretenimiento.univision.co...o/2012-04-06/alicia-machado-y-maria-antonieta - (autoplays)
But if they did, no one back here would take offense to it or get insulted or get all butt hurt like you have for some reason. Get over it dude. Besides, people of all races and nationalities use stage names for one reason or another. Even Joe Theisman and Tony Dorsett changed the way their names sound to better fit what they felt their professional needs were. Marylyn Monroe was Norma Jean etc... No one cares.
The only thing in question here is your grip on reality. You must have been heartbroken when you learned that Lou Diamond Phillips was born Richard Steven Valenzuela.
Why? Because, exactly like I posted before, she works in freaking television. You have to sell out. You sell everything to make it in that world, dude. Cleavage, bleach, name-shortening. Whatever it takes to keep you on screen making money for some detergent company. Blech. I can't figure out what's more weird: that you care about some TV "personality" (sic) changing her "name", or that you completely missed the entire point of my post. Also, you may please address me as Señor R-Roberto from now on. I want it... longer.
That's the problem. None of these people y'all mention was in SPANISH-SPEAKING television before appearing with a different name in ENGLISH-SPEAKING television. Bad comparisons, crose, crash, even B-bob. That is the main difference y'all seem to overlook. Still "sellouts", but not the same.
Maybe she called herself Antonieta for Spanish speaking TV? Maybe she goes by Toni in her personal life? Maybe Toni does sound better for English speaking TV? Tweet her and ask her why she changed it. Or just tweet her and call her a sellout if it's that important.
