Waiters is shooting 37% from 3 on 3 shots per game. Not bad at all for a player barely into his 2nd year. He just needs to take the long 2s out of his game and get out of the abyss that is Cleveland.

Aldridge specifically says Verajao would be a great fit next to Howard? Why? Because Verajao does everything Asik does just not as well and Asik was so awesome next to Howard?

I hope they can get Jeff Taylor, Biyombo and picks out of Charlotte.

Verajao can be Howard's b****, but Asik can never.

    Varejao runs the floor better
Varejao covers PFs better (can play the 4 and the 5)
    Varejao is better in space
    Varejao is a better finisher

Asik is a very good classic 5. Varejao is a 4/5 that can run.

Agreed. Not to mention, Varejao is a vocal, and tenacious. That doesn't seem like a big deal, but we need guys to do the dirty work and do it well. He is the definition of a guy that will do the dirty work.

He is a team-first guy and has vet. leadership.

I am not saying there aren't better options out there nor am I saying he is the guy that would fit perfectly with this team. But, I do think that with trade value at an all-time low, we could prob. snag another asset from the Cavs in the process. It is not a risky move at all, either.

The ONLY thing I don't like about Varejao is his injury history, he seems to ALWAYS be hurt.

Otherwise I can see how it appeals. He can play back up 5 and I think that is just as important as getting another forward.

This is the deal breaker for me.

There's still a long way to go until the Feb. 20 trade deadline, but the next deal could be days away. A person with knowledge of the Houston Rockets' thinking confirmed reports that they plan on trading center Omer Asik by either Wednesday or Thursday. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because teams' trade discussions are not made public.

Asik has wanted out since Houston signed Dwight Howard, and the trade pool of available talent gets a whole lot deeper on Sunday when most free agents who signed contracts last summer can finally be used in deals. The Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Atlanta Hawks have been reported by ESPN and NBA.com as possible destinations, and the Rockets are known to be seeking either a high-level power forward, a first-round draft pick or, perhaps, both.

Yet while the New Orleans Pelicans (i.e. forward Ryan Anderson) and Milwaukee Bucks (i.e. forward Ersan Ilyasova) have also been tied to the Asik situation, two people with knowledge of both team's dealings said they are no longer in the mix. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the talks. Things could change, of course, but it appears both teams have bowed out for now.

MIL never made much sense. They are stuck with Larry Sanders and might as well see that thing through, or at least give it a chance to work out, before bringing in Asik at a significant cost.

Cleveland seemed to have iced him and Kyrie way more than necessary to improve their draft chances though (then went and wasted the picks). Varejao probably doesn't have starting center minutes left in him anymore, but that's not what we want.

Varejao? That dude is dead! Pretty sure Wade killed him a long time ago.

My guess......none of the above. Morey NEVER makes the predictable trade. Everyone speculates and then BOOM....the trade comes out of left field. What is out in the public arena are leaks, and the Rockets NEVER leak trade info.

I'd watch the ones no-one is talking about: Nets, Bulls, Detriot, Magic, Suns, Warriors, Kings, Grizzlies, Nuggets, etc. These teams may not be where Asik goes to, but it could be where Morey gets the assets he's looking for.

Does Asik count as a big name? What if he spells it ASIK?

Asik for Frye and a pick?

Cavs not interested in Omer Asik, per league source. Houston will trade him, but it won't be straight up to Cleveland for Anderson Varejao - cavs writer, Jason Lloyd @jasonlloydabj
