I was responding to you using willie green to prove Bev is not a scrub. I know both are scrubs and neither should start except as a gimmick where they start but plays only limited min

If you expected him to not score points or assist and spend all his energy on defense. Who knows.

He has the speed and quickness. Better option is to trade Lin and get a good starting PG on this team and put Bev on the bench where he can be effective with twenty minutes of hustle play.

Would you start Dragic or Calderon over Bev?

Yeah, like I said, Beverly destroyed future HOF'er Reggie Jackson last season I'm sure he'll do the same to Westbrook.

We've come full circle. Feel free to divert again.

I haven't made my way through the whole thread yet, but I'm hopeful that someone offered an honest answer to this. I'd really like to know how making a factual statement about Beverley that happens to be positive equates to hating Lin. I really would.

No Lin is not a star by any means. He is a big name because he is Asian and blew up for 20 games in the largest media market in the world. Now Lin is a good player yes but not a star, there are numerous guards that do what he does that are not considered stars the difference is they are not Asian.

Surely NOT. Because Bev fits Harden better. Not the team, but Harden.

After all, this is Harden's team.

This is the huge difference in mentality. I love Bev, but I don't care if he starts. Don't care how many minutes he plays. I want to win games. Period.

Nash is hurt and is a proven PGs in the NBA. Vets who have earned their rep.

Bev is a rookie who was a scrub from the moment he joined the NBA to today who brings nothing as a starter except good D against some PGs.

Nash is a hofer who is one of the greatest of all time. You compare a scrub like Bev to Nash lmao

Felton is a scrub but he had some good years for the Knicks. He is hurt otherwise he would be vastly better than Bev. Last year Felton was decent.

If you have a PG who can give you a 18-20 Per you play him 35 mpg if his competition for PT is a 11.2 Per PG who is a defensive specialist and nothing else,

Asik/Lin for Goran and plumlee. pls Morey do it.Goran seems to have taken his game to next level in the last few weeks. Plumlee is the perfect backup for Dwight

While Bev did a great job defensively last night, I agree with some of the above posters that Bev shouldn't be starting. On any other team he wouldn't be starting. Except for maybe getting some rebounds, it's clear he is a liability in every other facet.

If Lin were an absolutely terrible defensive player, I would agree that maybe he shouldn't be starting. But we all know that he at least puts in effort and he's actually mediocre on that end. If he were starting and actually getting around 34 minutes per game like he deserves he would easily average 17-18 ppg and 6 apg while playing decent defense. Bev would also come in for about 20-25 minutes and put that great defensive pressure he's capable of putting. That would result in us winning a lot more games.

People say you don't have to have a good play making point guard to win a championship (ala Chalmers, Fisher, etc.). But let me ask you something. What other point guards did they have? They WERE the best point guards on the team. And especially when LeBron and Kobe were leading those teams along with other great stars, veterans, and great coaches, it's a completely different situation.

If it were anyone except Lin that was substantially leading the starting PG in almost every single statistical category while also being known to give effort defensively, everyone would be clamoring for him to start. But because of the massive distaste for LOFs and the LOF angst, people always try to prop up and defend the other point guard. First it was Machado then Douglas and now Bev. To Bev's credit he shouldn't be mentioned with those two other guys because he's much better. But that's basically how it is. Bev is a great backup point guard on a great contract who can play great defense for 20 minutes a game. But we all know Lin should be starting. And if not, then I agree with the OP. Package him and Asik for a real starting point guard.

I'm not upset about anything that happened last night. While Lin should've gotten a little more than 13 minutes, it was clear that he was a little rusty in the time he was playing. But the fact that Lin started all games last year and then improved immensely over the off-season and then gets benched is beyond me. Anyone who actually believes Lin is being treated well relative to his talent level is kidding themselves.

But it is what it is. For the sake of the team I hope Bev gets it going offensively. We should have won that game and its a shame Dwights dominating night on both ends was again wasted on a loss

Jeff Teague, Isaiah Thomas, Goran Dragic, Eric Bledsoe, Kyle Lowry, all of these guys and more are similar heck even Raymond Felton is similar numbers wise. They are not stars and these are Lins easiest comparisons so he isn't a star either. Just a good solid player and a pretty good slasher/scorer. Tell me that if he wasn't Asian that people would go that crazy over him.

Considering Parsons and Dwight call Bev the leader, I guess they also feel he needs to start as well.

If your question is a statement that no one actually made then you aren't going to get an answer.

But you can play the strawman game with yourself all you like.

Or maybe if someone did make that exact statement you should ask them because that was THAT person's opinion.

Maybe you're not getting an answer because others do not agree with said statement.

you can't start lin again unless patrick is injured (such as earlier in the season), and when patrick returns, you have to put lin back on the bench no matter how well he's been playing.

this is what happens when you switch out your starter based on "intangibles" or "fit". it was never based on competition, stats, production, etc. bev did not "outplay" lin to win the job. it was given to him because the coaches thought he'd be a better "fit". there was never a quantifiable reason to take lin out of the starting lineup, so you can't all of a sudden put him back in there for quantifiable reasons since the reason for the switch was never about the numbers.

if you do that, you would be 1) admitting to your errors in evaluating your own players, and 2) do huge damage to bev's confidence. you tell him the sky is the limit, gives him the starting job, and now you're gonna tell him that all he's gonna be is a defensive specialist?

this is the risk you take when you make decisions based on "gut feel". you have to at least let the season play out to see if you were right. we're only 1/4 way through - too early to give up now.

I'm kind of tired of Bev's undeserved hype regarding his supposedly great Defense.

I acknowledge and agree that Bev is very good against small/fast PGs and that Beverly tries hard. Well he should since he does nothing else. Bev can' score, run and offense, or even dish out asts even when Harden is out with an injury.

I sort of wish someone would create a thread and post every game Beverly was completed owned by a medicore PG who scored at Beverly at will. Many PGs score on Bev so easily but the occasional good D performance by Bev when he does nothing else gets so much attention and he is lionized for it.

Dragic/Bledsoe drop 39 points on Bev on very good shooting percentage over 50% and the Rockets lost to the Suns

Burke drop 21 on 50% FG and Burks drop 21 on 7-11 FG on Bev and the Rocket lost to the Jazz?

Are 2 recent games Bev did nothing. Can't score, can't run an offense, can't dish out ast, and gets completed owned on his D as well.

If we had a thread where every time Bev's defense was exposed then the hype of Bev's supposedly good D would end.

Bev is not a great Defensive PG. He's a defensive specialist for some PGs.

Lin isn't an elite scorer like Harden. He's never scored at an elite level for any significant period of time. Even during his NYK Linsanity days Lin only averaged 18.4 pts/game on 45% shooting. Further, if you look at his Linsanity numbers you'll see that his scoring fell off dramatically after the first 11 games.

    games 1-11 23.9 pts 50 FG%
    games 12-26 14.5 pts 39.3 FG%

Lin is a good offensive player. He's just not a #1 options level guy but there's very few of those guys around.

If you truely believe that Lin is on Harden's level then teams should be offering a ton in exchange for Lin. Is that what you expect?
