Either start Lin, or bring in a new starting PG, Bev ain't cuttin' it.

James Harden and Many were their "real" 6-man who plays heavy minutes. They basically were bench players who played starter minutes.

Lin gets benched and relegated to 15 minutes at a drop of a hate even when he plays well all season long like against the Mavs game till that point.

    Not exactly comparable.

8 million yr is not a lot of money for a NBA player who is a 18+ Per.

Not to mention the endorsement deals the Toyota Center gets and other financial benefits pays a lot of the 8 million Lin makes per year. If not the whole 8 million. If not gives Les a surplus and basically Lin is here for free considering the cash benefit he brings to the Rockets.

Lin is likely only costing Les a million a year at most.

    http://www.bsports.com/statsinsights/nba/monta-ellis-ty-lawson-jeremy-lin-nba-best-drivers

Lin is top 10 in the ENTIRE NBA for ANY position, and top 5 among Point Guards in every measurable category on drives. Drives per game, PPG off drives, Team PPG off drives, finishing percentage off drives, and Points off passes off drives.

Top 10 out of 400 players makes him Elite in my books. At least as far as Driving goes. You can debate the other stuff if you want, but when it comes to going to the Rim, Lin qualifies as Elite in the NBA.

    As of this year,

    Tony Parker has a TOV% of 13.3% - http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/parketo01.html
    Jeremy Lin has a TOV% of 19.3% - http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/linje01.html

So, Lin turns the ball over 6 times more per 100 plays than Tony Parker, or 0.6 times more than Tony Parker per 10 plays.

During the entire 2012/13 season, NBA teams had a TS% of 53.5%, or 1.07 points per possession.

Jeremy Lin averages 8.2 drives per game. That means he averages 1.58 TO's per game off drives if you use the generic TOV% stat.

Tony Parker averages 9.7 drives per game. That means he averages 1.29 TO's per game off drives. If Parker was driving 8.2 drives per game like Lin that would work out to 1.09 TO's per game.

    http://stats.nba.com/playerTrackingDrives.html?pageNo=1&rowsPerPage=25&sortField=DVS&sortOrder=DES

The difference in TO's per game works out 0.49 TO's per game if you equalize at 8.2 drives per game between both. That 0.49 TO's per game translated against opponent TS% of 53.5% or 1.07 PPP works out to a negative impact of 0.52 Points per game.

In other words, Lin's being "turnover prone" while driving costs the team on average 0.52 points per game.

10.1 vs 10.6 Team PPG if you cut Lin's TO's down to Tony Parker levels. And that would still have him solidly in the top 10 in team PPG in the NBA and still top 5 among Point Guards.

And just as a side note

Chris Paul, with a 13.6% TOV%, arguably also the #1 Point Guard in the NBA hardly drives at all compared to Lin or Parker.

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/paulch01.html

#41 in the NBA in drives per game at 5.2 drives per game.
    #47 2.7 PPG off drives
#47 5.3 Team PPG off drives
#16 50.0% Finish rate off drives for players averaging 5 drives per game or more

Sorry, if there is one thing that Lin is Elite at doing, it's driving to the rim and making something happen.

George Hill is considered on the best defensive PGs in the game. Zeke, Magic, and JVG have waxed lyrical about his ability on that end of the court.

I think at the end of the season Bev and Lin 3 point % will even out! you effectively take away from Lins ability by playing him with starters. Lin is a scorer first and is not a great facilitator like a lot of his fans think, he does look for others when penetrating but often gets hisself in bad positions leading to turnovers. Yes Harden turns the ball over as well but he is still a better player with very similar types of playing styles hence Lin should defer toHarden. This is why Bev should play with Harden and why he gets starters minutes, plus it's not like Lin isn't getting starters minutes as well. Lin is the lead scorer when Harden is off court and can spot up for 3s and supplement facilitating a little.

Yeah child did you learn to read yet? I said he is only good as a defensive specialist against SOME pg and he brings nothing else to the table.

Did you not see Dragic/Bledsoe drop 39 points on Bev on very good shooting percentage over 50% and the Rockets lost to the Suns

Did you not see Burke drop 21 on 50% FG and Burks drop 21 on 7-11 FG on Bev and the Rocket lost to the Jazz?

The Bev fan club likes to point out the games he does well against some NBA PG while neglecting the other half of the time he gets light up.

Again Bev is a defensive specialist who should play a few minutes here or there to stop a small, fast PG. Half the PGs in the league destroy Bev when he guards them.

I never knew PGs like Trey Burke, Alec Burks were superstars when they show Bev supposedly great D is nothing special.

All Bev brings to the table is his D and even that is only good against some NBA PGs which is why he should be a 3rd string at best.

    Brandon Knight (10.3 PER .345 FG%), Raymond Felton (11.81 PER, .394 FG%) and Steve Nash ( 6.8 PER .261 FG%) say hello.

But Bev can't so anything else except for his vaunted "lock down defense" while I see many games I would say 40% of the games he plays where his D is weak and opposing PGs abuse him.

As I said Bev is hard working and tries every game but his D is a specialize D that only works against some PGs especially small/fast ones.

A PG with size, strength looks forward to playing against bev because his D is weak against them. Half the PGs in the NBA destroys Bev when he guards them.

That is why there is no reason to start him with his glaring weakness in every aspect of his game except for D.

If you do start him then play him 17 mpg avg tops like other "starters" who only start but plays back up PG minutes

Beverly is a fantastic defensive player and plays a special role on our team.Never the less, he is a poor starting Point Guard, almost the worst in the NBA. Eventually I hope that Morey will sort it all out and Harden and Parsons can concentrate on their play at Shooting Guard and Small forward, they should not need to cover up for the limitations of of our starting Point Guard.Although many will not like my point of view, it is my point of view!:p

I don't think the argument that he's making is that Beverley should be shutting every single guard down, as opposed that he has advantages against some kinds of guards and disadvantages against others.

Given Beverley's lack of size, he's going to be at a disadvantage against longer and stronger guards. On the flip side you could argue that Lin will be disadvantaged against smaller guards with high lateral movement speed (read Nate Robinson).

Basketball is very much about match ups, and I think we do a disservice to not at least consider the possibility that some PG's are just a poor match up for Lin, and other guards are just a poor match up for Beverley.

I suspect that there's a number of match ups where Beverley would look considerably better, and others where Lin's superior team/help defense would outweigh his lateral speed disadvantage versus Beverley.

The real question of course is whether the Coaches are as cognizant of those defensive mismatches. I think I've seen more than a few times when I've questioned the defensive assignments being used in game, and this applies to every position.

I've said multiple times AB should have come in. I'm not implying Lin was responsible for LMA's run. The poster to whom I responded flat out said that Beverley was in during the run and thus, was responsible. I merely pointed out that BOTH Lin and Bev were in at that time. Simple.

Willie Green is a dumb example and I completely debunked it. Green plays back up PG minutes. Actually he plays less than many back up PGs. Greens plays 15-17 mpg as a "starter".

Bev should play 17 mpg either as a starter or backup and no one. But playing him starter minutes and more recently superstar minutes is crazy.

I'm sure he'll do just as good a job on Westbrook as he did on further HOF'er Reggie Jackson in the playoffs last season.

    Totally shut him down.

Lol at people who are still defending Bev plays so far this season. You guys sure do have low expectation of him. Let hope Bev is more critical of himself than some people are.

That's bunk that he's not a star and Harden is some golden boy star. Given the right circumstances, Lin has played like a star. He has scored, assisted and has been clutch like a star. Beverley has NEVER played on that level for a consistent stretch of games. Why is Lin a big name? Because he's Asian-American? No. Because he has a strong game. If he was just some serviceable any player as you dismiss him to be, why would there be so much buzz about him? Bev doesn't fit better because CF constantly says he does. He's not cutting it as a starting PG. And if he has to start, Lin still should get more minutes and be a bigger option and center of the offense at least than Beverley is.

As far as Harden goes, he is a great scorer/penetrator, something of a go to guy, can be clutuch, but he has holes in his game. He needs to have consistent effort on defense, stop being a ball stopper on offense, stop that dribbling the ball and passing it off with 3 seconds left on the clock, get a more mid-range game and possibly post up game. He's 24 and has a lot of improvement to do even if he has a high-level offensive game.

It's the way. Only 'True Rockets Fans' realise the true potential of players like Scott Machado, Shaun Livingston, Toney Douglas and now Patrick Beverly. Good thing our coaches agree.
